I've been diagnosed with CFS and had mono. The mono was a few years prior to the diagnosis, but that doesn't really mean much. I'm not sure that I agree with the CFS diagnosis and don't feel as if it really fits my symptoms, but two of my doctors consulted and came up with CFS and Fibro which were diagnosed at the same time. My test do show adrenal issues so CFS is very possible, just not sure if i believe it or not since some of the other factors are iffy.
I surely hope NONE of you have this, even the ones diagnosed! Fibro is bad enough. I had to look this up, all of it, and from what I read, seems as though Mono has always been present, if only in the past.
Hope they have a good line of defense. Diet can always help, but check with Doc first, always a new idea or new med around the corner.
Sending you all my best,
SK
Is the CFS/CFIDS/RN site one of the bensfriends ones? I didn't see one so im curious about this now.. p.s. why does this damn disease have so many names?
My FMS was the result of Mono, but I do not have CFIDS/CFS. My mother does though and hers also resulted from a serious acute illness. I've heard that Mono is a common one for people who get FMS, but I'd imagine any illness that crashes your immune system could do the same thing.
My father has CEBV and has been diagnosed with CFS on multiple occasions. Additionally, I got mono at a very young age (approximately 12) and my already awful immune system got worse. I developed FMS and CFS as well as severe peripheral neuropathy by the time I was 15. My doctor now thinks that these were all due to the damage that Chronic Lyme Disease was wreaking on my body. My roommate developed CFS after a battle with Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever. From some of the literature I've read, infections that cause your body to become immunosuppressed for some time, like mono, CEBV, Lyme, and Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, seem to lead to the development of CFS.
I developed CFS after a bout of Mono while I was in college. My mom would take me to the mall and I would have to find a chair and sit down from simply walking from the parking lot to the mall entrance. I had always required more sleep than most so my parents didn't really worry. Then I started having roving pain which I thought was arthritis flare ups as I had mistakenly been diagnosed juvenile rheumatoid arthristis when I was 15 after I had a fever for one month and they could find no cause for it. Anyway that is all I have CFS/FMS I always thought there was a connection between the too.
I would be interested in hearing anything any of you can tell me about what you know about the connection between mono and these disease.. I have fibro and cfids and i have had mono (I also had swine flu and pneumonia and bronchitis a little while later). I now get pneumonia and bronchitis at least yearly now, but that's another issue.. at least i think it is.. everything is connected after all.
This is just my ideas but all three have to do with your auto-immune system and I think it is a faulty immune system and it mistakenly begins attacking you instead of fighting off the other things.
I don't know if it's connected or not but I also have developed allergies to almost everything medicine wise, but allergy to allergens in the air don't seem to bother me. I am taking the auto-immune system things that are supposed to boost your system, like the enzyme L-Lycine and others but I can't think of their names.
