Desperate for sleep

Sleep seems to be a common problem for all of us. For the past 10 months I have not been able to get one night of proper sleep without waking up in pain or be it just plain insomnia as a result of medication side effects.

Two nights ago I tried to go to sleep and just ended up tossing and turning until midnight. I got up and tried to relax myself so I could go back to sleep. Never happened. At 5am my husband joined me for a cup of coffee and I stayed up.

By 3pm every square inch of my skin hurt. All of my muscles hurt and I was starting to get a migraine. I laid down at 4pm and still got no sleep. I went to bed without eating dinner at 8pm. I took an Ambien and other Rx’s to help me sleep. Well the few hours I was in bed were certainly not restful. I was up at 11:23pm. Then at 12:15am. Then finally just got up at 1am. I have been online for the past 3 hours and need any advice on how to get some actual sleep!

I take Amitryptiline and Valerian herb to sleep and have no issues now. I tried all of the rest of the sleep meds with no success. The Amitryptiline saved my sleep and I don’t go without it.

Best,
Laurie

I am sorry Kas you are having this problem. I haven't slept more than 3 consecutive hours for over 2 weeks. I agree with Lovett, try talking to your doctors. I have been keeping a sleep chart and will be talking to my doctor next week when he is finally back from vacation. One thing that has helped me a little a couple of times is a white noise app. I put the ocean sound on and work hard to visualize and sometimes it helps my muscles relax a little. A couple of days ago I only had like 2 hours broken sleep and my skin burned all day and I couldn't even tolerate the slightest touch. Hugs.

I have had the same sleep issues from time to time. My neurologist recommended that I take 3mg of melatonin. It is, according to my doctor, a naturally occurring chemical in our bodies that lessens as we age - which is why many elderly people suffer from insomnia. By replacing some of this chemical in our bodies, it will help us stay asleep for more restful sleep. She said it won't put me to sleep, but will help me stay asleep once I am asleep. I never feel "hung-over" in the morning after having taken it the night before. I am thinking of increasing my dosage as the effect seems to be wearing off. I am fortunate to have an incredible person in my city who knows so much about supplements and natural chemicals in our bodies. He runs a health food store and is asked to lecture all over the place - the first week in July, he was at the Mayo Clinic! At any rate, he is always ready and willing to discuss whatever issue I need to address and recommend what he feels will help. Do yourself a favor and mention it to your doctor and see what they think of the idea. It can't hurt to ask!

Hey Kas

Have you tried melatonin

,"spelled wrong but don't fell like gett'in up to look at bottle" or benadril along with say your xanax.

If your not taking the very addictive xanax you might want to get a script for it as ambien and all the others never helped one iota for me..Take the xanax about 9:30pm and the benedril right at bed time...I use to get about 15 mins a week sleep, now 4-6 hrs a night...G.B Wayne
