Does anyone take Desyrel?

I stopped taking Amitriptiline and Cymbalta due to sever weight gain.

I meet this week with the doctor and have a friend with Fibryomaylagia who swears by Desyrel for both depression and Sleep.

I mainly want it for sleep, when I was on the other regiment I Realky Slept Great and since I weaned myself off the other two on my own I have not slept well at all. Since then I have lost three inches on my waist… I know that Desyrel also mentions weight gain but hoping that it isn’t as severe as the other two medications.

Sometimes I feel like a pharmacologist and never thought I’d spend so much free time researching medications like I do.

Appreciate any feedback I can get.

Ron

Hi, Ron. I haven’t taken this med, but know many here do for sleep. Try a search on Trazadone as well. Best of luck with meds transition!

Laurie,

I will check it out.

I have seen it listed as a Depression medication and a side effect is it helps sleep. So I plan on talking with my doctor tomorrow and see how I react to it.

Thanks,
Ron

Hello Ron,

Just following your post with interest. I also had same trouble with Amitriptylene, and have not found anything that helps me with sleep since. Wish you well.

Take care, Anne

Anne,
Doctor today said that he is confident that the new medication will do the trick for both depression and sleep. He has numerous patients on the same regiment that I am on with much success.
Thanks for your replies everyone.

Hi Ron

When I was nursing I saw several patient that swore it was the best thing ever the one's who did gain weight said it taped of after the first few month and the they were able to lose it. I hope it works for you let us know

Thanks!
It’s only been a few days and do notice a little improvement in sleep. Doctor said it will take a week or so. He started me out for one week on one pill and after a week increase it to one and a half. He also insisted I go back on Cymbalta in the morning. I’ll be tracking my weight every day in hopes of not seeing any increase. Being the holidays will not help but have to commit to watching my calories. I have worked many months to shed my weight and went from a 38 " waist back to a 35 but want to try to get back to my pre- Fibro waist of 34.
I have increased going to the YMCA for my Arthritic Water Therapy so see that as a way to help with the wait,
Thanks to everyone for your support.
Ron

Hi, Ron.
One of the things I do to help watch weight during the holidays is to only “sample” a very small bite of dishes, etc. It psychologically “tricks” my appetite and satisfies cravings and urges, yet keeps me from overindulging. Best of luck with your plan. You seem to be on track to keeping fit!
Hugs.
