This drug is used to help control seizures, which I do not have, but I know there are many drugs that are used for other purposes than what most people use them for. I'm willing to try something, just being picky because I don't work well with some drugs.
I started using Neurontin 8 years ago when I crushed the nerves in my left foot. The nerves being crushed are incredibly painful even with the Duregesic Pain Patches. I'm on 100mcq every 48 hours. The Neurontin does help the FMS, I think. For several years I had little FMS pain, most likely due to the high dosage of the Duregesic. I believe it works for me. I've met some friends the Neurontin works well for and others that it doesn't work so well for. I take 800 mg four times a day, quite a high dosage, but it was prescribed for the crushed nerves. It's tough for me to even walk out to our car. The foot pain triggers the FMS pain, stress I have difficulty controlling. It got so tough for me to walk that we moved to Utah after being invited by my son and family. They have a nice size basement and fixed it all up for us. Beautiful kitchen with two bedrooms. My husband who is 79 in June, I'll be 67 next month. (Second marriage for both of us, will be married for 26 years next month. He does all the grocery shopping and loves it..crazy huh? I'm blessed.) At any rate, if you haven't tried it, I'd certainly give it a try. Hope I've helped a little. Good luck! Susan D.
Hi SG, Hi was on Neurontin for many years to control siezurers. (900mg daily) Much higher dosages are commonly used to control pain but i was not able to tolerate going higher. Lyrica is in the same family of drugs but i gained too much weight on that. Now i am on Vimpat another anti seizure drug which my neuro doc thinks may also help some with pain but i am not all that sure about that. sigh.anywhooo. i wish you the best luck on your journey... sending you much love and HUGGGGS

I just got put on this today. I've tried Lyrica already and it did nothing for me. Tending not to do well with medications, I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
Took my first Neurontin yesterday and I had diarrhea really bad, felt like my stomach was on fire, started itching and then found a couple of blisters that went away as the medication came out of my system. Guess I found another medication that I can't tolerate.
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I have a good idea of what to expect. I'm so not looking forward to drugs but if it helps me to wake up without being hit by that Mac Truck, it would be a blessing. I was even seeing stars again. I am being serious and funny. LOL,
I use it however I don't notice a lot of changes pain wise, I think it does help to control somehow but is not very noticeable.
For me works a combination of meds, it seems that Norco works for the pain however the side effects are somehow bothering.
Wow, I have something to watch for when I do start taking it. Are you still taking Neurontin? if so how are you feeling now? Hope it goes away.
After years of Lyrica, with limited results, I've been taking neurontin for almost 3 years. It does have Some effect for me, but is by no means a cure.
I have the oddest bone itching, that will progress to aches and then massive pain. Taking neurontin is the only thing that helps (and if I miss a couple of days...Very bad) I think it also helps with some of the base pain levels.
But for the majority of my symptoms, there isn't much difference.
It does help more than the Lyrica did, and without the swelling and weight gain.
I haven't taken it since Friday, waiting to see what my Pain Specialist says.
Well I'm glad to hear you didn't get any weight gain. That is what I am afraid of. But I'm already gaining weight without taking any of these meds. Oh well, I will find out how I will react when I start this drug.
I can only share what I have experienced with Neurontin.. I started off with the lowest possible 100 mg 3x a day add 1 capsule every week until you level out at 600 mg for 3 weeks to start that brought me from dont touch me you'll break me to if youre very careful you can touch me SOFTLY :) .. my husband hates this med it hasnt "fixed" the "problem" so my doctor up'd the dosage to 900 mg I've been on that for 3 weeks and were more at a you can touch me if im not moving, because it wears of so fast If i move at all, im left practically immobile hopefully though you arent as bad off as I am and neurontin works better for you .. Neurontin works good for me on a day when I do nothing much but I need more movement ..
Pain Specialist has taken me off of Neurontin as of yesterday afternoon.
Works for me. With 2 acetaminophen, 600 mg. 2 or 3x/day. Get about 40% relief. I'll take it!
For some reason you seem very familiar to me, would you happen to have two older sisters and 4 nephews?
That is great. I do hope for some improvements. I can't exercise anymore it hurts to bad. Can't wait to get the script from the doctor. Maybe it will be a good med for me first time around.
