Just wondered if anyone had any sort of eye problems, and are they related to Fibro?
For a few weeks now I have noticed when I wake up in the morning I have sticky eyes. I also have a bit of sorenes round the skin of the eye. My vision has been a bit blurry first thing, but soon clears. Also, more recently I have been expeiencing double vision with letters on TV. Not all letters, just when there is a strong contrast between black and white. This has concerned me a little. I have my eyes tested regularly, and all they have said in the past few years, I have high pressures, but this is nothing to worry about. So is this common, Fibro or just old age.
Hi, Anne. I have had dry itchy eyes and some blurriness off and on since the Fibro started and I have been told it’s allergies. I have regular eye exams as well. My eye exams are always normal. I have heard Sjogren’s has eye-related symptoms, but I haven’t heard of this being Fibro-specific, but let’s see what other members may say, too…
Sorry to hear you’re experiencing this.
Hi Anne, I am sorry you are having this. For the past year and half I have had trouble with my left eye. I get double vision when reading, just in my left eye and not all the time. I also seem to have trouble getting images to register at times, it is like I 'KNOW" something is there but I can't process it. Just in my left eye. I have had a lot of eye tests and I keep failing the visual field one. They have tested for MS as that is often a symptom but luckily I am good there. So for now I just go every 4-6 months to have my eyes looked at again. Also, they can't seem to correct the vision in my left eye better than 20-40 and they don't know why. I also have chronic dry eyes (and skin, and mouth). I have noticed that when I am really tired the skin around my eyes will be a little sore but I don't notice this other times. Hugs!
Hi Anne,
I have the exact same problem when I wake up in the morning, and then my eyes are super dry all day. I wear contacts most of the time but recently I’ve had to wear my glasses more because my eyes stay irritated. I also get dry patches of skin around my eyes. I take an allergy pill daily and use eye drops but I haven’t found anything that really helps so far. It seems to be worse in the winter so I’m hoping it’ll get better in the spring. I think it’s definitely fibro related, because I’ve never experienced this set of eye problems before, even with past allergies. Let me know if you find something that helps!
Hugs!
Karli
Hi Anne, Sorry you are going through this. I would get it checked out by a specialist. One never knows if we are showing signs of some new condition or if it is for sure fibro. This could be also be hormone related. We women are constantly going through hormone changes, some more drastic than others, LOL. I too find that my eyes are drier now, and I have moved to wearing my glasses instead of contacts. I even use progressive lenses, and love them. I get my eyes checked regularly due to diabetes, but so far do not have any eye problems related to the disease. But my eyes sight and dryness have changed drastically in the last few years and I pretty convinced the changes are age related. Wishing you the best and hope all works out well. Hugs.
hi. i dont know if you have seen a doctor for diseases of the yes or one to just check the pressure in the eye and for glasses prescriptions. i would recommend the doc( ophthalmologist) rather than the optometrist. I have bletharitis.I do not think it is related to fibro. I also had high eye pressure a few times that were corrected with some drops the doc gave me. I also have some blurriness in the mornings and clears up in a short while . i was told not to worry about that either. But the soreness and stickiness i think is something to check out. all the best

Hi Anne. I'm sorry about your eye problems. Suzie came up with the word I was thinking of to describe that yucky stickiness that you can wake up to: bletharitis. But I do agree that you should see an eye doctor and maybe a rheumatologist as well, as some eye issues tie into auto-immune disorders.
I hope you can get your issues sorted out, as it's hard to get things done when your eyes are wonky.
