Falling with Fibromyalgia

Aww sorry you had a bad fall. . .sucks!! I do not lose my balance often but when I lived in a house and had to walk up and down the stairs, I fell more times than I would have ever liked to. I fell so much that I had to move out of the house and into an apartment without stairs, I am satisfied now.

I have close calls daily. I also have Carpal tunnel and thoracic outlet syndrome and sometime forget and reach out to grab something, only to find , oh ya my arms don't work for s@#*. I'm sure you know that we, as us chronic pain sufferers, are suppose to do daily stretching. Improving and maintaining flexibility is important so that when you're about to fall you do so in a slower and more controlled fashion. I'm not say it's going to be graceful, oh no, it's going to look incredibly silly and I always look around to see if anyone saw me. But it will help to keep you loose and hopefully you don't hit hard enough to break a bone or if you're too tense, pull muscles, and so on. I know it hurts to work out and stretch, but as we get older we are going to be more breakable. Take care, and I wish all the best for you.

Yes, thanks, and I do stretch out my arms and legs daily, consistently. It does make a difference. And yes, I have to realize I'm not getting any younger, so I have to be proactive about my health, since it's my responsibility. Thanks for the advice; I really appreciate it. Take care of you, too.

Thanks, I find myself walking a bit slower these days, but whatever helps. Thinking about getting a cane; a friend of mine suggested I get a real snazzy looking, stylish cane. That made me smile. Anyway, hope you're feeling well. Take care.

I agree - gentle stretching does make a huge difference! I think even healthy people should do it. All of my 3 cats do it all the time and they don't seem to have any pain!

LOL, that's really funny; thanks for giving me a nice laugh, I needed it. I will continue to stretch as long as my body permits. Take care of yourself.

I love that reply. My cats are good stretchers as well. But they're both 2 year old. So funny....I hope everyone has a loving pet, as I think it is one my best stress relievers. Thanks so much for making laugh, it's also good for what ails ya:)

My 3 cats have their unique, individual way of streching, too! My oldest calico Ginger puts one paw on the wall and stretches her upper body. She does this to greet me or when she wants something.

My little torty Gingko stretches when I call her name - she slowly starts moving toward me and stretches her hind leg (almost 90 degree angle- parallel to the floor!) as she walks - and she would stretch her arms as she greets me!

My youngest and fluffy torty Mimosa strecthes everything. She lies on her back in the middle of the floor, strecthed in all directions - she has her arms and legs up in all directions. She looks like an accent rug... (I need to take a photo of it and post it here so everyone can see!) My husband wondered if that's really comfortable (because it looks so silly) so he tried it and he ended up laughing hard and he felt good afterwards.

I think we can learn so much from cats...they are masters of yoga, meditation, taichi, martial arts, (and even manipulating people to get what they want!) .... they seem to do everything so effortlessly and they do not hold on to stress. They live in a moment and not worry about the future like we do. Let us all purr, stretch, yawn, take a nap, chase some invisible prey, dash like a maniac, and do whatever pleases us!
