I have had fibro for over 4 years now and have been officially diagnosed for only 2 years. Well, in all that time I continue to have a weird symptom. My left thumb and sometimes my left pointer finger will twitch and move on their own. My big toe and some of my other toes have twitched/moved on their own too. In all these years I am convinced it is just the fibro as I have had extensive testing for other things (due to the fibro not the twitching however). Does anyone else share this weird symptom?
It could be a few things. A side effect of one of your Meds? Ummmm, Restless Legs Syndrome? There are times when I will be dreaming of driving down the highway & a deer runs in front of the vehicle & I will wake myself up, slamming on the brakes (whatever that is).

A number of members here see a neurologist. If you continue to be troubled, it might be worth setting up an appointment with one.
Though I am a volunteer here and do not have fibromyalgia, I often experience muscle twitches and jerks while sleeping that may wake me up (Luna's explanation is a good one), so it is not necessarily a sign of disease. But, your intuition is worth something. If you feel something may be amiss, it's a good time to call the doc.
HI Hopeful,
I have similar twitches and muscles in my legs will also twitch. I have been awakened by my arm rhythmically rocking, I have issues with dropping things, shaking (especially when I am eating, holding spoon or fork), I have watched my toes draw upward and my I have to force my neck, shoulders, and back to relax as I am trying to sleep (they tense in my sleep).
I do see a neurologist. I do not have MS (been subjected to every test possible including lumbar puncture and all but brain MRI were negative). Though, it is always possible that I may also have brain trauma (like a boxer suffers) from chronic untreated complicated/complex migraines.
I would suggest you get into a doctor.
I am struggling as we speak with similar, and very annoying twitching on the side of my head, the back of my upper arm, and in my thigh. I don't understand why it happens. but do notice it more when Im extremely tired and stressed.
You most definitely alone in this. For me it was some of these weird muscle twitches that started getting me to realize something was not right. They have not gone away. The only thing I have found for me to help as of yet is Flexeril. So I deel you. Hope it get better or a least tolerable.
My right eye twitched, along with other body parts…
It just now realized an error in my typing. I meant that you were not olone. I am soory if my previous miss type come across incentive.

Homadais,
I definitely did not take it as insensitive, I understand. I often miss words when I am writing or misspell them. My brain works faster than my hands can type. LOL
My simple twitches still occur, but I also have major spasms that cause major flailing of a limb and major pain. My rheumy has started me on gabapentin at bedtime to try to get my brain to rest and to try to get me to reach REM sleep so my muscles may have the chance to heal. He started me at 300mg and I can go up to 900mg. I am currently up to 600mg. It seems to work the first night and my body is like "yeah, you tried to fool me, didn't you?" and immediately built a tolerance to it at that dosage. I will be trying the 900mg tomorrow night and see how it goes. If it does help me sleep all night, he will try adding Miripex and titrate it up at supper time starting Friday.
My rheumy believes those of us with fibro are born with it and the subsets must be treated for us to find relief.
Hopefulfhol,
I know exactly what you mean when you are talking abt twitching. I once knocked a lamp off the table next to my bed and couldn’t believe it. I haven’t had anything that drastic happen since but I quite frequently have twitching of some sort throughout the day. When it really becomes annoying is when you are trying to go to sleep and something twitches or jerks you awake ( as if you needed something else to rob you of your coveted sleep). I have had some relief from muscle relaxers but not %100 relief.
P.s. I have also had good results with gabapentin. I just worry about the side affects because for me I had incontinence issues. I drank a lot of cranberry juice or took supplements… Hope you can find some relief. I know I wouldn’t wish FM on anyone because it is an awful burden to bear. Hugs to you!!!

I also have strange spasms and twitches aside from the ooccasional shakes. Lol. Sometimes my big toe and the next 1 will separate apart from 1 another n kinda lock in place, and same also with my pinky toe. In my left hand on my really bad days or if I’ve been out in cold weather even for a short period of time my pinky and ring fingers wanna curl up almost into fist like position while the pinky also turns inward under the ring. Typically it’s when I’m having lots of pain as well. Lastly my right pointer and index finger will spasm and shake on their own. Haven’t done the gabapentin yet, but probably not an option for me due to my polycystic kidney disease. My kidneys are currently only functioning at about 50%. About 4 months in on cymbalta with not much help from it aat all.
Hey, Hopefulfhol,
yes I definitely get weird twitching with my fibro. Not sure if it is the nerve pain or muscle spasms, but I totally get where you're coming from. Usually I get the twitching primarily in my legs and sometimes in arms ands hands (makes it very difficult to write and have neat writing). I take muscle relaxants which seems to help a little bit, I also use hemp oil (you can find the oil itself and capsules at Natural Grocers or Vitamin Cottage, I keep mine in the fridge. Though it isn't a miracle cure, I do notice it helps with my fibro pain and uncontrollable muscle twitching. Also soaking in a hot bath with Epsom salts usually seems to calm things down a bit. Hang in there, I hope the twitching and spasms stop soon.
Blessings and prayers
