Shaky Hands and twitching

Hello, I'm new here and I have been reading up on a few topics and discussions. They are all very familiar to me. I wanted to know if anyone else has experienced any of the following..

Lately I've noticed my left hand is a bit shaky / twitchy, specially when holding something or writing. I get embarrassed when I'm handing over something and my hand is twitching (thumb specially). My right hand does it too but a bit more when I move my mouse around, it'll just move towards the side with a bit of a jolt. I also jolt A LOT and twitch! Specially when laying in bed sleeping and watching T.V, I notice my feet do it often and the fingers on my hands. Would like to know if anyone here has this same problem? And if it's been checked by a doctor...maybe diagnosed? I'm scared it may be Parkinson's.

Restless legs is another issue I've had since a very young age, and my daughter has it too.

Hello
I also have this problem. I have muscle twitching all over and my left thumb spasms randomly. I went to physical therapy for disc degeneration in my neck and she explained the nerve running from neck to thumb was being pinched causing the arm pain and thumb twitching. Don’t know if you have neck pain but maybe that’s an answer, at least for your hand shaking.

Take care, Dyana

Hello Fibrosucks, (apt name)

Welcome to this community, and thank-you for intrducing yourself.

I personally haven't experienced these problems, but Fibro does throw up some odd symtoms. I suspect there are people on here who have. Check in with your Doc tho' as it could be another condition. Let us know how you get on.

Take care, Anne

I also, have twitching and jerking, my doc says it stress or medicine related. Possibly from tramadol. Ask your doctor, but common with fibro patients.

Welcome to the comunity. You are not alone. I also have this issue. However I also have trouble letting go as well. For me it is due to server muscle weekness in my arms and hands. Its disconcerning for sure. Just keep in mind this is not your fault. Hopefully you will get used to it. I eventuly did. Its not going away its part of me now. My friends and family have also gotten more used to it as well. Now I’m just careful how heavy objects I hold.
So yes this can happen from Fibro. However just stay attentive if it gets worse then for sure get it looked at.
Hope this helps.

Thanks for the advice and warm welcoming :)

Hi Fibrosucks (love the name). I shake, twitch, jolt, etc. And my Neurologist has confirmed that it is from the Fibro! I wouldn't worry too hard about it- stress can make it worse. My Neuro gave me a website to educate myself. You may find it helpful: http://chronicfatigue.about.com/od/whatisfibromyalgia/a/fibrosympt...,

Good Luck,

HI!

my hands have been shaky and unsteady since I was a little girl. I have been taking allergy meds as long as I remember and the shaking hands started when I was around 13 and started on a new allergy med. The med is no longer used (old-fashioned and no longer on the market) and I have been on several different once since, but my hands remain shaky.

As for jolts, mine are usually, but not always accompanied by a stabbing pain. like being stabbed with an ice pick. Sometimes my legs jolt without the pain. My docs tell my the jolts are from Fibro. I never asked a doc about the shakey hands, it's so normal to me I don't think about it anymore.

When I get surprised suddenly I get not only the jumping but stabbing pains. Over active adrenaline system relating to fibromyalgia maybe?

I have the same problems. I talked to my neurologist the other day about it. he said he was stumped. because he checked all my reflexs and tried to get my jumping and twitching going. I told him its not all the time. its usually at night. its so bad my husband had to move to the spare bed room. I was hitting and kicking him all night. I wasn't disappointed. beause he has sleep apnea. enough said. but anyway most doctors don't know anything about fibro. tht's bad. because lots of people don't know whats wrong with them. that happened to me for several yrs.

My hands also shake when I take my asthma inhaler. It is very hard to find good doctors. I count myself lucky bc I have been seeing the same Neuro for the past 15 yrsa or so, I have been seeing his daughter lately who joined his practice as a PA, she actually has Fibro., so she is invested in finding a way to help.

Ahhhh, it sounds like the good ole Restless Leg monster is acting up again! Someone elsee on here has also been diagnosed with Restless Arm. It may not be this but it sounds like it could be related to your restless leg. My arm does jump, from time to time, as does my leg. Think it's alway the left arm and leg, which is my more painful side as well. I never had this until I started on Notriptyline, which is a muscle relaxant. Maybe yours could also be tied to a medicine you are taking?

Also, sometimes my hands feel very shaky but they aren't shaking on the outside, which is weird because it feels like they are. Hard to explain this.

As for Parkinson's, does anyone else in your family have it or do any of your relatives? I think it can be hereditary. Your best bet would be seeing your doctor to put your mind at rest.

Shmoots, I am SO grateful to you for posting that article! Now I know why I have occasionally experienced getting lost on a road I've been on many times before. It's an awful feeling! Maybe if not recognizing familiar settings briefly is a fibro symptom, then I'm not coming down with dementia! That's a giant relief, if it's only fibro and isn't permanent.
