hi Joanne, I have only cut out/or cut down on certain foods mainly because i am challenged with a lot of GI problems. IBS, hiatal hernia and mild espophagitis and small bowel obstruction for which brought me to the ER many times and had ER surgery. the bowel obstruction was not because i was constipated as many have thought. I had adhesions ( scar tissues) from an old surgery which twisted and wrapped around the small bowel which meant that blood and oxygen could not pass through,. So about the foods, I try to adhere to the healthiest eating habits possible which for me is no fried foods, acidic foods and very little, no processed foods. I have after one year incorporated a little coffee that i mix with decaf. I just feel that the healthiest diet we could employ is the best and to eliminate those that we found upset us.I am a believer in the whole grains, fresh fruits and veggies and lean meats, fish etc. of course if one has particular dietary issues like celiac( wheat intolerance and other allergies or conditions such as diverticulitis) those of course have to be considered and addressed. I hope you find the things that are best to you as an individual. sorry for the novel, lol. much love to you and

Hey Joanne

I do not drink coffee just because i never got a taste for it. I did feel better when I cut down on the caffine in drinks. The night shade family of plants is supposed to cause flares. Some insurances will cover a diatian to help plan a diet around illness {not to loose weight} I have found eating small meals during the day and snacking of fruits and vegatables in stead of chips and candy has helped.

I have heard that prepackaged food is not good for us. I have started trying to eat fresh food, very little sugar, carbs and stay away from anything made with preservatives or those names that are a mile long. I only just started this past week so I don't know if it is helping. I don't do any caffeine unless you count dark chocolate. That is my treat now for sweets. I am hoping this will help. Do you know how hard it is to go to grocery store and buy food that is not packaged?

yes indeed. that is why we do alot of our shopping in produce markets and we use alot of dry beans and stuff like that to make a variety of things. black beans, lentils, barely etc. good for high protien and fiber and yummyness.... good luck and all the best for your well being.

Yeah my pain has always been in worse in my knees it kills me some days but I also find the fatigue terrible especially when I've been at work.

I was thinking about trying decaf coffee see how I go with that but I also love tea lol.

Hugs hun xx

I also find it hard to find something different to eat I get tired of eating the same foods..Its just crazy how expensive things have got..hugs all xx

My doctor has recommended going online and looking at an anti-inflammatory diet. I have just started looking myself and have read that caffeine, sugar and processed foods can increase pain.
Hope those knees feel better!

Hi Joanne :),

My dr has been telling for years that caffeine increases pain. I am a avid coffee drinker and I find it to be kind of an oxymoron of what he has told me. For whatever the reason, when I have a cup of coffee it seems to lower my pain. Now if I drink too much (3 or more cups), then my pain will get worst. So what I do is. I drink about two cups of regular then I switch to decaf. Then a few hours later, I'll have regular again.

As far as the food part - I'm still trying to figure that out. I have found though that dark chocolate gives me a headache.

I have learned that going off caffeine cold-turkey will give me a massive migraine that lasted 7 days!!! I had to wean myself off. I now drink only 2 caff coffee in the AM only. I have switched to decaff tea or coffee from 12N on.

Surprisingly Avacados are not only good for lowering your chol, but it also helps reduce inflamation in your system, Walnuts are good for this as well as (I use fresh) ginger root tea. Ginger when sliced smells like lemon & makes my tea taste like lemon, but the suckers are spicy!!!, so don't chomp down on one. LOL.

Look in the Alternative discussion section, this was asked just recently. Oh, & make certain your Primary Physician knows you are going to & are consuming any of these suggestions that we are sharing w/you.

Hi Joanne,

Shortly after I was diagnosed someone told me that if I went completely glutton free hat

That would help my pain level. So I went completely glutton free for 3 months.

It did not help with my pain at all. So obviously I don't have an issue with glutton,

Which I am happy about. I hardly ever drink coffee so I can't really speak to that.

I hope you find our answers helpful.

Oh yes, you're right, pb, night shade plants are supposed to be problematic to some of us with fibro. "Potatoes, tomatoes, sweet and hot peppers, eggplant, tomatillos, tamarios, pepinos, pimentos, paprika, and cayenne peppers are classified as nightshade foods." - link: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=george&dbid=62

Joanne, I don't drink coffee but my knees bother me a lot, especially in the winter. Then they suddenly feel much heavier and like the skin surrounding the entire upper leg is much too tight and wants to burst. The knees throb terribly and sometimes even have hot torches of pain shoot through them, making it impossible to walk on them. I've only found relief when the weather gets warmer. I'm sorry to have no better answers than this. :-(
