I realize I have not been very active on here and I will try to do so. I am sure that this topic has been discussed, but can’t check by subject on my phone and my computer of course decided to die. I forget EVERYTHING! I walk from one room to another and forget why I walked into the room. I constantly forget to sign papers and send them back to school with my daughter and I always seem to lose my car in parking lots. Is there anything I can do to improve my memory? It’s really getting the best of me and my daughter gets so mad when I forget school stuff. I do write myself notes, but then can’t remember where I put the notes. Please help me!
Sounds like me! No sense in writing notes bc I either lose them, or I forget to even notice them. I don’t seem to have much long term or short term memory either. It’s embarrassing being in a conversation and completely forgetting what the discussion is about. Even when reminded it doesn’t ring a bell and I’m only 27.
I haven’t found too much that really helps. I set a ton of alarms on my phone to remind me of things. I have an iPhone so when I put stuff in my calander I can set 2 alarms. I usually do one the day before, and another an hour before. This way if I forget I have an hour to get ready. For every day stuff like feeding the dog or getting the kids off the bus (before I homeschooled) I set 2 alarms in my regular alarm section…one 15 mins till and another 5 mins till.
Other than that I try to be as routine as possible. When I go to Walmart I always park in the last 2 rows by the garden entrence as close as I can. If I go somewhere I don’t usually go I always park directly in front of the entrence even if I have to park in the back…or if possible under a tree.
As for school stuff, when my kids were in school I looked in their back packs and signed their folders as soon as they got home.
I’m glad I’m not the only one too! People get such odd expressions when that happens lol. I wish there was another name for the fibro fog though. Something long and technical sounding that people aren’t used to hearing. I’m not about to explain, “oh I have fibromyalgia.” Or, “it’s just the fibro fog”. People would really look at me crazy then lol. I’m quickly learning people think “it’s just fibromyalgia.” Like it’s no big deal. Even I had no idea brain problems can come from this…I thought it was just pain.
Thank you both. I will research my meds a little further, but guess it’s something we all are forced to face. I wish the Dr’s would really tell you all the symptoms of fibro. I get so sick of having Drs act like it isn’t serious or that I’m exaggerating. Anyhow, thanks again!
Would it help to have your daughter remind you several times about the school stuff? If she's the one with the good memory it would make sense to asknher to have that responsibility.
I know what you mean cause my son got peeved at me for reminding him to include a copy of his license with his volunteer application for the place I work at. I felt very hurt by his reaction and had to call back later to remind him that since my memory is shot, I think everyone else's is too.
Sometimes I start a conversation and immediately and totally forget what I was going to say and end up saying "uh uh uh uh uhhhhhhhhhhhhhh." I really feel dumb when that happens!
I don't know what can be done to improve your memory. But what about getting a small tape recorder and attaching it to your purse, then say what you want to remember for the day, then set your alarm for a certain time so you can get your purse with the tape recorder in it. Or better still, aren't there programs like that on your computer that ding to remind you at a certain time.
I hope knowing that others also suffer from this helps you to feel a but better. It IS the fibro, it's NOT you.
