Gluten Free Diet

Hello,

Just wondering if any of you out there have any problems with fibro and gluten allergy.

I have just been informed my blood panel was very high and I start a gluten fee diet. Is is a common symptom with fibro

Im having a bad day today, everything hurts and the brain fog is almost to much to bear. I cant type very well right now so I will sign off for now.

Any insight on the gluten would be very helpful to me, thank you

Well, I’ve been having terrible trouble all year keeping my thyroid levels in check-it is high one day, low the next, high, low-went to an endocrinologist today. I have had low thyroid & taking the same med at same strength & dose for 10 years & just started having this trouble. Was told today that it is Hashimoto’s disease which is an autoimmune hypothyroid condition. Also, common to have FMS along with it and a lot of people also find that they are sensitive to gluten-some even full blown celiac disease. It appears that Hashimoto’s being autoimmune-basically your body turning on it’s thyroid & destroying it, not recognizing the thyroid for what it is but rather seeing it as something foreign & attacking it. The molecular structure of gluten closely resembles that of the thyroid; in the case of Hashimoto’s disease, the vast majority are also gluten intolerant. What you are saying makes a lot of sense to me because a lot of folks with FMS also have thyroid problems. What about you-do you have any problems that you know of with your thyroid?

Hi Kelly, I haven't noticed a pattern between gluten and gluten free and the Fibro symptoms for me personally. However, I know there have been discussions on here before regarding diets / foods to avoid. You might try searching in the discussions search box to pull up previous comments for information. And hopefully more people will see this and respond. Hugs!!!!

Last year I went on an elimination diet - the Virgin diet - and found my pain was worse when I tried reintroducing gluten. It could have been a coincidence, but it was enough to keep me off of gluten until the holidays.

If you're going gluten-free, I recommend trying Enjoy Life products. I like their Caramel Apple or Mixed Berry bars. Their rice cereal isn't bad either, but you need to mix it with something, fruit or flavored granola.

I have found that following a gluten-free decreases my symptoms and I also use recipes from The Autoimmune Protocol @ www.thepaleomom.com.
