I have been having new problems with my right hand and arm. It started about a month ago with my pinky finger hurting a bit and feeling stiff. Over the month the joints in my fingers on my right hand, especially the pinkey have become swollen and quite painful. Sometimes when I try to use my right hand I get a shooting pain up my arm and then weakness and a duller pain remain in the arm. Sometimes parts of my right hand and arm are numb. Often my pinky and ring finger are much colder then the others and sometimes it is my whole right arm and hand that are cold. My fingers are stiff too. I do have some cervical disc problems but this finger pain and swelling is very new. Something that may be unrelated, a few weeks back my right ring finger started to suddenly hurt really bad. It became black and blue and hurt for a few days and then was fine. Has anyone ever had this stuff happen???
Yes, it sounds very much like tendinitis! http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/tendinitis/DS00153/DSECTION=symptoms You should have it looked into, if it's not treated it can cause serious damage to your tendons. Some result in surgery, I wouldn't put it off. It can take time to recover from (it took six weeks initially for me) and the longer you wait the worse it will be.
Sorry you're going through this! Hope it's better soon!!

when was your last c spine imaging done? it can progress quickly in short as 5-6 months.
you could be having nerve root or facet issues or had nerve infarction. sounds like possibly what they call sciatica if in your rear end and legs. Um, sorry name escapes me. been there, done that before my fusion surgery. swelling, stiffness and pain def I would get checked out. if you can't see doc, consider urgent care- they can order testing without the expensive ER hassle, shorter wait in chairs too.
feel better soon. my heart goes out to you, sounds painful. sorry not more helpful. 1 finger typing
forgot to add,
try 10 minutes warm moist heat on hand, just once. if nerve pain, will calm it down. if more swelling, no repeating.
hugs
I have a lot of pain in my hands, but I was diagnosed with osteoarthris in my mid-twenties. The shooting pain says to me there might be maybe some tendonitis or something of the sort. But the black and blue--that one stumps me. Wish I could be more help!
I also had this happen though it was to my right thumb and result was a flare up and had so,e ken along shots and prednisone was given and it did get better in the past year I’ve had flare ups surgery might e the only answer or I deal with the flares good luck see your doc gentle hugs
Hi- I have stiffness and pain in my pinky and ring finger. It is caused by carpel tunnel on that wrist. I also have cervical spine disc issues that causes pain in my arm and back. You really need to see a Dr for a real diagnosis, but it sounds similar.
Hey nmamommy!
You know that I'm not a Doctor, but beside all of the other stuff, I have arthritis and Raynaud's Phenomenon! I have to tell you this all sounds familiar! Time to talk to your Doctor!

Hope you can get some answers and lots of relief!
Wishing you well,

Wow just look at all of the possibilities! Problem is, we NEVER have just one thing wrong with us!
Hi,
I have been having this problem recently as well. My hands begin to go stiff and yesterday my forearms were killing me. I took some Advil but it did not help that mucht. In the end my pinky was still bothering me. I tried to figure out what was going on because this was a big problem after I got whiplash. One morning I woke up and could not lift my arm or feel it. My attorney back then said it was the brachial plexus. I checked out my niece's anatomy and physiology book. The ulnar nerve (arm and pinky) originates at C-7 and goes through the brachial plexus before it descends to the arm to and at the pinky.. I thought about it. Yesterday my shoulders and neck were exposed to the cold in the morning. I thought I had turn the space heater on at night but I did not. But the rest of my body was covered with 3 warm blankets. This morning I put a heating pad on my neck then my shoulder blades. Found a knot over the blade, massaged it out. No pain in arms so far ( still may get it) but my hands are still very stiff. I hope this helps a little.
This is how my problems started, joint pain in my fingers, lots of bold tests, came back ANA Positive, they think I have Lupus and Fibro. Then, my fingers started swelling during the night. I’ve had to quit wearing my rings at night. Then I would wake up at night with my arm/hands/fingers tingling. Seemed to be mostly my left side. That seemed to go away with the meds (Cymbalta, Mobic and Plaquinel). But, I woke up last night with the tingling again.
nmamommy, you should definitely see your doctor about this. We are not medical personnel so it does you no good for any of us to conjecture what it might be or how it is like something we may have experienced.
You must go to your doctor.
Gentle hugs
Rachel
You should probably see a neurologist like I did. Try some gentle movement exercises to increase circulation when it's not so painful for you. I'm having a lot lot of problems with the left side of my body and have yet to find out what the problem is. I pray that you will feel better soon. Gentle hugs to you.
Thanks everyone for your help and advise. I have had so many weird physical symptoms with the Fibro. I knnow you have all been through the dance of telling your doctor of your new symptoms, having tests done only to be told they found nothing, it must be the Fibro and you are just gonna have to live with it. I know my neck and back disc problems are not from the Fibro yet there seems to be no good solutions to those problems. But this thing with my hand is the most confusing to me. And as much as I hate to say it I don't know if right now I can handle hearing that it's just the fibro. I want it to be something that can be fixed. I am trying to work at a new job that was supposed to be a lot of work from home. It turns out that I am out in the 'field' almost every day, and by every I mean 7 days a week, doing physically strenuous work. My logical mind tells me to quit but I need the money. As you can all probably tell (and relate to) I am terribly frustrated.
I want to thank everyone that answered or that just took a moment to read my post. Knowing you all are out there listening means more to me then I can express. Hugs to you all!!
Yes it sounds like stuff I go through a few times a year, the last 15.It could be alot of things ,but it could be fibro ,I would like it to be something fixable.Hot baths help .But who can live in the bathtub 24-7.I would be careful with those joints when there are going through this as they are more suspetable to further injury.Bouts can last several days or several months,it sucks but there it is.There is hope out there,as at least we are starting to get medicos to believe. Be kind to yourself you deserve it.
