Happy

Like most of us on here, I have more then just fibro. I was not getting any help in CA and had to stop working so I moved up north (WA) to stay with my mom. So that's where my daughter and I live now. So back to the reason I am writing. I have tried so many different combinations of meds. I think I am getting close to finding what works. But the issue I was having was that I was losing my hair, probably for the past year. Not just a little, you could tell in spots. I'm only in my forties. So I tell my Doc, and she says she has not idea why. OK, I guess I'm just going to have to start checking out some wigs. And actually there are some really cool ones. Then a few months ago I realized I was not finding my hair everywhere, cool, maybe that's all I am going to lose. But then I noticed it's growing back. I have a bunch of new growth, which does look a little funny because the shorter my hair the curlier it is. I don't know if it was meds, stress or hormones or who really knows, I just know it's growing back.

If you don’t mind me asking what medicines are you on exactly? I know I’ve lost a lot of hair on all of my chemo drugs and also my topamax also causes hair loss.

Thank you. :-)

Gaila, was you on Lyrica when your hair started falling out?. That was one of the reason I quit taking it. I was just wondering.

I'm trying to remember what I was taking because it was after I changed that my hair stopped falling out. I really think it was stress. My son (26) was, well actually still is, going through some things. I've just had to let it go. I pray a lot. :-)

Hello Gaila and welome!

I'm wondering if a thyroid issue might be at the root of your problem (pardon the pun.) I know that a lot of people with fibro have hypothyroidism, so it might bear looking into. Otherwise, i suggest that you type in the meds you're taking individually and see if hair loss is a side effect of any of them. I'm not familiar with any causing it but who knows? Or maybe you had alopecia from stress.

It's great that you have new hair growth! I do know that chemotherapy changes hair textures sometimes so I guess medicines can too.

Hopefully some other folks will have more ideas on your hair loss. I'm stumped.

Hugs,

Petunia
