My name is Amber. I’ve been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for 2yrs. But, I’ve been searching for years for answers! Only to have every test to be found normal, every scan perfect! And, I would get referred to psychs & counseling. Our house was in a tornado this past April. We are back in after 6 months. I’ve been one huge walking flare up from all of the stress I’m married & we are about to celebrate 19yrs of marriage in January. Have a 15 year old daughter. Her first year of high school. And we have an 18 year old son, in his first year of college. He lives in a dorm but comes home on Weds & the weekends I’m 37 years old. I’ve been dwelling on my pain a lot. It’s been pretty bad & I’ve been very tired & depressed. Someone mentioned maybe I needed to find a support group Thanks for listening!
Hi Amber and welcome to this fabulous site! I am sorry you have Fibro but here you will find support and information. Wow, 2 teenagers, that sure must be challenging at times . . . One of the best things I've learned over the years about controlling my symptoms is to try to stay positive, reduce stress, and get good quality sleep. I definitely don't always succeed with those things but I try. What types of things are you doing to control symptoms? I look forward to getting to know you more. Hugs!!!
Hi! Yes, teens have been challenging! I had a really rough time when my son went to college!!! He’s only 45 minutes away. But, I think 5 minutes away would be too far! Haha!!! I started Savella yesterday. And, my doctor said to start out slow with walking. So I started with 5 minutes. Like he said to do. And, gradually work up to 30-60 minutes within 6 months. Life has been nuts since the tornado. So, I haven’t been taking good care of myself. What do you do for your symptoms to get relief? I sure need help! I also have been taking regular baths. I have a jacuzzi tub. And I’ve been using some essential oils as well
Hello Amber
I love the essential oils. Have you tried physical therapy or aqua therapy? I personaly do better with the aqua therapy. While I was in Physical therapy they taught me some streatches to do before getting out of bed of a morning and that has helped also. Massage is good and I am lucky enough to have a teaching college close so the rates are very good. {some insurances will cover this now}
Welcome Amber to this fabulous site that Auburnm called it. I have found connecting with this site has offered me heaps of support, with tons of new ideas to try and manage my symptoms. I use a combination of meds and lifestyle changes. I did use Epsom salts in my hot bath or the whirlpool function, but alas since my shoulder surgery in late summer I am now a shower gal, and hot showers help too. I think I need to find one with a massage function to really help my shoulders and neck. I also use stretches to get the blood flowing. I can't do yoga the traditional way, my hands are too painful to support my weight getting off the floor but I do the yoga position best I can standing up, lol. I might not be graceful but laughing at myself helps me to release stress and feel better too. A lot of members have reported yoga, water therapy and walking to be great in helping them with symptom management. I think it is great you are starting a walking program. I wish you the best with that. Check out the site for many other ideas, and I too look forward to getting to know you better.
Hello Amber,
Lots of ood advice on this site, as per usual. The epsom bath salts and stretches in the morning are particular favourites of mine. What you have dealt with, a tornado and teenage children! You deserve a medal - well done you! Just remember to pace yourself, and make sure other people are able to lighten your load.
Take care, Anne
Just saying hi and Welcome.
