hi over the last 6 weeks i have had a problem with pain when eating and drinking, so much so i have started not getting all food down it hurts that much i have been bringing the food back on occasions, would like to know if any body else has had this with fibro or not and if so if anything helps as i am getting desperate .
Absolutely anything is possible with FMS. Is it in your belly, your chest, your throat? Is it burning, tightness, or a blockage feeling? It could be many different things, from acid reflux to a hiatal hernia, so it would probably be a good idea to talk to your doctor soon. You don't want things to get worse.
I sometimes get a "sore throat" feeling when swallowing, like when I'm about to become sick (with a cold/flu, not sick like throwing up). Sometimes it feels like a cramp in the back of my throat, sometimes it just feels sore/burn-y
the pain is in my throat and chest yes it does burn but mostly hurts to drink or eat and i can feel it going down as if its sticking i am going to gp in new year , thanks for your reply
HI CRACKPOT IVE BEEN IN PAIN AND COULDNT EAT SOLID FOOD FOOD THAT HAS TO BE ABLE TO PUT IN MY MOUTH CHEW 2-3 TIMES OR JUST SWALLOW ITS MY JAW AND PAIN EVERYWHERE EAT EASY SOFT FOODS ITS USUSLLY AFTER I VE JUST COME HOME FROM WORK. 7-7:30PM
If you have the ability to do so, please go to a doctor. I don't know if this is fibro or not but it could be other things as well and your doctor is best able to help you in this case. I now know that I have a hiatal hernia and I sometimes get food stuck going down but nothing like what you're experiencing. Your symptoms sound miserable and you could end up losing weight as well. Please don't wait around, go to your doctor and find out what's up.
I, too, think you should see a doctor about this. The root problem should be identified. I have come to believe that whether or not Fibro is the root cause of our pain , we are going to feel everything more acutely than others and our bodies are doing strange things in reaction to the pain. Jackie
I'm REALLY glad to hear this. Your symptoms concerned me and I'm relieved to know that you'll be seen for your symptoms. Please do let us know how you make out. I hope that you get a clean bill of health.
Yes, get to a doctor, could be something with the stomach or esophagus and needs to be checked. Also make sure your thyroid is checked, as the gland is in the front of the lower throat too, and can cause some sore throat like symptoms if it is inflamed, as in thyroiditis, which I had a few times before getting hypo thyroid
. I also have suffered from GERD and esophagitis in the past. When this happens to me I use Mylanta continuously for a bit and take Prevacid, then only Prevacid because it takes about a week to take effect in me. I think there is a Prevacid or Prilosec that contains a fast acting antacid available over the counter.
If your swallowing gets any worse, or any other stuff gets worse before next week, please go to a hospital ambulatory care unit or a local doc in a box, like an urgent care place in your community, or the ER..
I am not a doctor, so I am only sharing my own experiences, that does not mean I am giving medical advice you should follow. Only a doctor can do that.
So sorry to hear this, I will not even attempt a guess. My strong advice is to get to the Dr with this, in the meantime, please be very mindful of not getting dehydrated, even if you have to suck on ice chips. Please take care and let us know what is going on with you.
I hope that you aleady have an appointment!
Wishing you well,
SK
PS, so glad to see you are going Wednesday. Please don't hesitate to go to the ER if you need to before then! I'm very concerned for you!
Have you ever been checked for Scleroderma? Because I'm not a docter but I've done alot of reading on it (when the doc thought I had it) and it sure sounds like what your going through. Go talk to your doc and ask for a test asap. Hope this helps :)

Psoriasis? Psoriatic arthritis? Make sure you show him your skin and your fingernails. Start a running list of symptoms. I have Psoriatic arthritis, but was very hard to diagnose because I do NOT have psoriasis, however could get it at anytime. I do have the pitted fingernails, and that is how the Rheumatologist diagnosed me. They look like small dents in the nail.
I am not attempting to make a diagnosis, just something to consider.
Comes and goes with me, ever since I broke my neck, had a bunch of swallow testing done and they said that pressure should be 10, mine was a high of 4 and they told me that it would never get any better however, it comes and goes. I often choke even on water.
