Home Improvement resumes!

Because the lack of insulation in our upstairs, built on in 1942, we have had to replace that entire section of roof, because it buckled and the rain poured in, besides being improperly flashed. Now the other bedroom upstairs and the huge closet will also have to be ripped down to the studs and redone from there. New wiring, insulation, dry wall, sanding and primed and painted. We are contemplating as to have the floors sanded, knowing the dust that makes. They are beautiful yellow pine or 'heart pine' that you can no longer buy. We are wrestling with the mess and fumes involved during an arctic blast and driving snow!

I know it will all be wonderful, new, warm, when finished, it is hell living with it torn up and piled up, as neat, clean and consciencoious as they are. Remember we are having a birthday party for the great grandson on the 9th! Oh well, we're still going to have it! And we're going to have fun!

Oh honey - I can relate. In the middle of my diagnosis for fibro we were building an addition onto our house. Some of the tile floors needed to be ripped up and the dust lasted for what seemed forever. My husband ( now ex ) and I were sleeping on a mattress on the floor in the living room ! It wasn't all that uncomfortable of a mattress, the biggest thing was listening to the fridge that was also in the livingroom next to the mattress -WORKING ALL NIGHT LONG ! After all is said and done it was worth it. I know if you don't keep those beautiful floors you'll be sorry. Hang in there.

Oh my, that's a LOT of work! Very, very worthwhile but a lot of work. And my gosh, how have you managed to live in your upstairs with no insulation, especially with Fibro and Raynauds? It makes me shiver even thinking about it.

Well now, the floors will look incredible when they're done. But I'd definitely wait until the spring to start that job!

I hope you aren't working yourself to the bone for the upcoming birthday party but I know he's worth the effort and you just won't be able to stop yourself. Do try to keep yourself from reaching the "flare" stage if you can -- doing less than you did at Christmas, for instance. And how old will the little man be? Does he have a preference for a birthday party theme? Oh boy, I remember finding all of the matching cups and plates and napkins of the cartoon character of the year, and each year I'd make up a Pin the Tail on the _________ (insert cartoon character name) or doing a treasure hunt for ______. Old games that you can make new by a few little tweaks. Oh, you're bringing back memories, SK!

Hi SK , wow that is a lot … How do you do it ?? You seriously just amaze me !!!
I know how important insulation is… I had some put in my attic when I had my new roof put on last year, and it has really made a huge difference, but I was so upset to still see icicles coming off my gutters a few weeks ago, how air is getting out is beyond me, I prob should call the guy that did my roof and and ask him.
Hard to believe your a great granny, my grandson calls my mother GG… It’s so wonderful, they bring so much joy into our life, it’s so nice you can appreciate and enjoy him.
Please take it easy though, good thing the good china is not needed for this next birthday bash … Lol
Hugs & blessings

I hear you, we've lived here 10 yrs. and have been renovating 10 yrs. I had a stuffy nose the whole time, but we're getting there. Good luck to you, and I'm sure the party will be terrific. Afterall you'll be with family. Charlie :)

Hi Sk, That is alot for you to have going on, But just think how beautiful and new everything will be. You know some of the newer floor sanders have the dust bag on them and I know first hand the dust is minimal. Also enjoy your Great Grandsons birthday, I am sure you will have lots of fun, Hugs, Robin

Renovations are awful. I have such a hard time living in the mess while the reno is going on, but you're right - when it's done, it is so worth it.

I like the TV shows where a crew comes in and renovates while the family goes on a 2 week vacation. Wouldn't that be great?

Good luck, hope it doesn't take too long to finish, and enjoy the birthday party.
