Doesanyone out there suffer from severe muscle spasms. My husband said that my body just goes thru spasms all night. I am trying to figure out if its the meds. I started taking muscle relaxers tonight to see if that help. Any info or experience would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Debi

I get convulsions when I lay down and am in a lot of pain. They come from my truck area and stomach. Maybe my back? I didn't do this until I started taking Cymbalta. Think that's what causes mine but not sure.

I get them all the time! I find that I get them more if did to much that day! I sleep with a heating pad at night to try and calm them more. It helps but unfortunately only to a point. Hope you get some relief hon!

I get severe spams when I've really overdone it! But it could be the medication too... wish I had something to say that might help. Praying you're doc(s) are able to figure it out!! *Hugs*

I have had severe muscle spasms for 14 years. prior to any meds, then on baclofen for 10 years, discovered it was having odd effect and making them worse. spent many times in physical therapy as mine can become "contractures", a spasm that locks up rock hard. part of the issue is spinal for me, and brain related as well.

helps for me include warm moist heat, magnesium oil spray, Epsom salt soaks, supplementing magnesium with zinc, and learning to do deep breathing when they come along anyhow, and an herbal tea blend that works on the nervous system.

if yours only happen during sleep, you may want to discuss with your doc having a sleep study done. hope you are more well soon. big hugs

Hello

I was doing this and had a sleep study she put me on requip and it has helped.

When I started physical therapy I found out that I had severe cervical, thoracic and lumbar muscle spasms. She gave me some exercises to do to help. Now I'm only have cervical muscle spasms so they have gotten better.

Me too. I take 350 mg of Soma (a muscle relaxer) every night. I also have a seizure med (200 mg tegretol) I sometimes take for it. I know some people who take lyrica and that helps them.

Hi vett lady,

You are not alone, I have gotten them to the point of it looking like a seizure, as it will start in one area and spread to every muscle of my body, that draws me up in knots. My Rheum calls them 'severe muscle attacks' after 3 brain MRIs that came up clean.

I have been on Embrel for years, recently was taken off it due to a bad flu, but it seemed to have soothed them somewhat. I take good pharmaceutical vitamins, under the direction of my DC, so it's not a magnesium or potassium deficiency.

Until recently every muscle relaxant I have been given was as good as eating an M&M, actually not as good, however I have been on 4 mg of Tizanidine HCL, and that really seems to make a difference. Sometimes they put me to sleep, which is not a bad thing as I seem more apt to have these in bed.

Hope you can find a solution, this is not fun!

Wishing you well,

SK

I have a terrible muscle spasm in the upper back for weeks now. It feels like I have a small ball in my back.

I do the muscle relaxer but also an anti inflammatory which just makes it a bit better but not fix the problem.

It is very painful.....usually a warm bath or massage makes it better.

Yes yes yes. About to board a plane will try to write more later. Flexeril, potassium, warm baths with salts and not getting overly cold – particular on the back.

Hey Debi,
Yes, I can honestly say that muscle spasms are a huge part of my daily battle with fibromyalgia. I also spasm a lot during the night, which typically keeps me from falling into a deep REM sleep. While muscle relaxants do help somewhat, sleep is SO important when we are going up against this disease. I would talk to your doctor about a sleep study test so they can figure out the best way to help with the spasms.
Always here if you wanna talk! Blessings and prayers.

Hello Debi,

I get muscle spasms daily. The night time in particular can be bad as the body is setting up for sleep. The tip I would share is that being aware of how a spasm can be dangerous: spasms while using sharp objects can be dangerous, keep aware of the angles and positions of sharp edges. also I embrace the spasms with odd dance movements it helps protect from hurting muscles or joints. Best wishes
