Hello, I just joined a few days ago. I’ve been diagnosed fairly recently but I think I’ve had it since I was 20. Just trying to find some support and find tips for managing better.
Hi Charlotte,
You've definitely come to the right place for support. I am not on here too much, but when I am I find this to be such a warm, supportive site. You will find loads of info and the moderators are fantastic! On those days you just feel like you have to vent and that nobody understands, you'll find this is the perfect place to find "kindred spirits". It's always nice to talk with people who understand exactly what you're going through.
As far as tips for managing, I can only give you what works for me. I've learned that I need to slow down, slow way down. I left my high-stress, face-paced job and am working from home now. This has made a huge difference in my life. I know it's not an option for all, but I was lucky enough to be able to do it. Naps are huge for me too. If I push myself to hard, I know I'll pay for it for the next few days. Try to find your limit and don't push yourself over it.
Also, I don't know what your doctor has prescribed you, but give the meds a chance to work. Sometimes it takes weeks for you to start seeing an improvement. Try to hang in there while your waiting. I know-easier said than done, but we have all had to go through this.
My biggest tip of all is to be proactive about your health. Sometimes we are so good at fighting for other people, but don't apply the same to ourselves. Find a good rheumatologist, if you don't already have one. If you're not getting the help you need and your pain is not getting under control, find a doctor that can help you.
Big Hugs!
