Is anyone else majorly affected by the weather?

Seems to me that the colder it is the worse I feel. And that’s when I usually have a bad flare up that then lasts for days. :frowning: and today it’s made worse (at least in my mind) bc I woke up to a malfunctioning furnace and it only being 50degrees in my house. It’s cold for me but I felt worse for the kids. But I am feeling worse today then the last few days and they weren’t good days but it was slightly warmer. But 6degrees right now… Does it bother you? Let me know if I am alone on this…
If it does bother youndoyou have anything you have or do that seems to help you feel better?? I try a heating pad but doesn’t seem to help, that’s on top of the braces i wear, Tylenol or ibuprofen that I take in a rotating schedule… But nothing seems to help…
Any ideas!

Thanks

Hi Momof2,

YES the cold weather is killer on my fibro. This past winter my left knee basically seized up from cramped leg muscles and I couldn't bend it very far. At times it was agonizing to walk on it. Right knee is trying to follow suit.

I use Salon Pas pads as they seem to help some. I don't just slap one on the spot, I add several around the offending area. More than one seems to help more. They're soothing and tend to lessen some of the pain.

Better weather is the other solution, unfortunately, and I'm seriously considering relocating to Florida for at least part of the year, if my disability gets approved.

Oh and btw, my heartfelt pity for you for the furnace flare up. Ours did it recently too, on three occasions. Yes, that makes your fibro worse. I'm so sorry that your furnace did that - it's seriously not fun to wake up feeling like a frozen Tin Man.

Hi Momof 2, I can honestly say if I woke up to a freezing house… Yikes, I’d be in a flare for sure!!! Just going out to get the mail makes my body hurt !!
What about a heated throw blanket, I keep mine close at all times, a hot bath… Anything warm to get us through this winter, I go to a community gym that has a hot whirlpool, ahh my muscles love it !!!
Always seems the furnace goes in Feb… With kids & fibro … That’s just not nice !!!
Hugs & blessings

Thanks for the suggestions I have lidoderm patches maybe I will double up on them … And I was able to fix the furnace thankfully with out a plumber!
But some days you just feel like the whole world is out to get you! Ugh. It’s awful!

I have been on the fence about the throw…bc I already have a heating pad but I think it is time to gt the full body warmth. Thanks Dee.

I actually find that in the spring and summer I have a lot fewer flare ups, the fatigue seems better as well. As soon as October comes and it starts to get cold and rains for longer periods of time, the flare ups happen more often and the the fatigue gets a lot worse. If I’m out and get cold I can feel my muscles and joins start to ache, a flare up starts and it takes hours to get warm, a warm shower and then the electric throw definitely helps with this.

Every time! Low barometric pressure, snow, rain, arctic blasts, but then I am arthritic as well, so winter is especially hard on me and all arthritics. I know before I look out the window in the morning if it's snow, frost, rain or extremely cold, I feel it all over! I think all of us do!

I take the generic for Daypro, it has helped my joint and bone pain better than any other anti-inflammatory, without the stomach upset, just have to make sure I eat something with every dose!

Hope you can find something to help you too!
