2022-01-04, Tuesday - Histamine? DAO? Cytokines?
v3 19:20 Researching for the cytokine connection between FM (reduced), EoE (get secreted) and vaccines (storms of them are wrongly expected). Also connection to cryotherapy.
v2: 17:05 Cardiologist made sure the jab-sfx are not my heart and also suggests histamine due to the skin problems in between.
v1: GP suggests not trying a 2nd jab & taking the (rare) DAO blood level, but thinks neither antihistamines nor ibuprofen would be right - if at all aspirin for it’s slight anti-inflammatory effect (of course I’m taking 10+ anti-inflammatory supps already… edit: that’s 13 at the moment…)
Triggers & resulting Symptoms
SLEEP (click for details): 8h42, up 4x (45') ✅, and ➔ feeling 80% well, Ache 2 of 7 🧐. ALA worked out tonight, taking it with other night supps and drinking a lot to prevent stomach hurt and managing to prevent one longer sleep break ✅

ACTIVITIES (aiming for 40% - well 20% - of pre-fibro) ➔ ACHE: rest, phoning dentist to put off today’s tooth appointment to next week, GP, resting, eating ➔ 70%/2. Cardiologist
(e.g. cycle , TT = , meetings/social , mask , kids , work ➔ ?80%/2 ?)
ACTIONS ➔ PAINS: Often sore throat in the last 1-2h of sleep, can’t see why, I got up warm with warm feet today. Neck & elbow good, I think the stretching is paying off. Esophagus block in the evening, “first bite” - might be the pattern, and not as I’d been thinking what I’m eating or how cold it is.
(e.g. lie, stand, loins, sit, arms up, neck, stiff, walk, cycle, 0xp1-2, GI, talk, mask.)
Treatments
THERAPIES: I discussed histamine as part of the FM-jab-sfx-recommendations with my GP today. He held against it that this would fit if I had more skin and less fatigue problems, as it only helps the mast cells in the skin, and would make me even more tired. What he did think of was DAO, which was on their list too, I remembered - albeit also for histamine type reactions. As this is a (rare) genetic problem and there’s a lot of GI problems in my family, he offered to check that blood level, altho he’s not at all sure about it. Curious, I agreed. When people like him ask me for my symptoms I tend to forget the “little ones” like the increased esophagus blocks that I’ve had today and the past few days - they don’t hurt as much, but happen more easily, more often and longer & harder than pre-jab (usually after get the food out several times now, instead of only once, if at all).
Regarding a 2nd jab he like always said: hard to know; but suggested that omicron might be better than a 2nd jab. My wife was glad to here this, as she is also faltering on this.
My cardiologist made sure the jab-sfx are not my heart and also suggests histamine due to the skin problems in between.
So I’m just wondering if esophagus isn’t histamine as well, i.e. revisiting Eosinophilic Esophagitis… so here goes some research-search… (below)

Development:
Jab-sfx: Body warmth back again, less electric blanket, less HWB bottle starting Sunday, more yesterday, same today. Is the changed esophagus block really from the jab or just similar time?
Research-search today: Revisiting Eosinophilic (o)esophagitis, due to me remembering the connection of histamine with the esophagus.
2015: The Role of the Environment in Eosinophilic Esophagitis - PubMed, 2018: Biological Therapies for Eosinophilic Esophagitis: Where Do We Stand? - PubMed - saying that “none of the biologicals studied so far in EoE have been highly effective, many demonstrated some histological benefit, especially those that targeted the Th2 axis. Therefore, the future for biologicals is promising as the pathophysiology of EoE is better understood, clinical assessment tools are validated, identification of patient subsets that respond best to biologicals is made, and dosages of biologicals are optimized.”
Interesting the cytokines they talk about are IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13: “The mechanism by which food allergens trigger EoE is thought to be a T helper type 2 (Th2) reaction, resulting in secretion of the cytokines IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. IL-5 induces eosinophil production and trafficking to the esophagus, and IL-13 induces esophageal epithelial cells to secrete eotaxin-3, which drives eosinophil chemotaxis and activation.”
Looking those up “in fibro” brings up Unique Cytokine Signature in the Plasma of Patients with Fibromyalgia, saying: “Upon examination, patients with FMS exhibited a marked reduction in TH2 cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13. The finding of this pattern of altered cytokine milieu not only supports the role of inflammation in FMS but also may lead to more definitive diagnostic tools for clinicians treating FMS. The TH2 suppression provides strong evidence of immune dysregulation in patients with FMS.” Strange, I always thought IL-6 was the most important. But it says “such as”. Now here having FMS I’d have a reduction of these cytokines, if I had EoE these cytokines would be secreted due to a rare form of food allergy… Getting confusing. Don’t know where to look now…
A seeming previous connection with cytokines was the cryotherapy that helped a lot off and on 2020, got really good, but decreased again in 2021. However the study I’d once found and linked here mentioning it is small and just talks about changes in cytokines, not that helpful: Serial whole-body cryotherapy in fibromyalgia is effective and alters cytokine profiles - PubMed
Looking further at EoE they often mention elimination diet, like here Challenges and updates in the management of eosinophilic esophagitis - PubMed. Problem is I don’t want to have to eat even less varied… I had identified some things, but it’s not at all clear at the moment what it is I’m eating that might be increasing it.
But OTOH cytokines and vaccines? The expectation seems to be of people getting cytokine storms, the official answer that this is not proven the case. But that would mean vaccines would tend to increase cytokines.
Reasons to be cheerful #189 Bit chaotic today, but effective.
