Waterwaves,I take epsom salts baths which has a lot of magnesium in it. That soap trick is cool and interesting! I will share with people are on their feet all day.
I forgot to say that the original tip I saw said to use a bar of Ivory soap but the forum I found said most soaps would do. They said they replace them or score them with a knife to freshen them up when it seems to stop working. Some said anywhere from six months to a year. Though one person said they used the same bar for three years. Yes please Graveyardnerd, pass it on to anyone who has foot pain. My sister swears it helped her.
Waterwaves, that is so cool! HAHA, I love simple and CHEAP remedies. I hate spending $25-$40 on a co-pay only for the doc and specialists to say, "I don't know why you have chronic pain with hand swelling, blah blah blah." Ha, a bar of soap. I love it!!
We know redwingfan! Clothes, shoes, all have to be bigger, with some of us, it's age, slower metabalism, meds, so many reasons, but the important thing is that you faced the fact that the shoes you had previously worn were not working for you anymore! I cried when I sent my beautiful shoes and clothes to the Goodwill and Salvation Army, but I had to face it. Oh Yes, of course I held onto a few things, but little by little they go too! Let someone who can use it, have it!
I know exactly how you are feeling, so many of us do, but we applaud you for 'just doing it'! I wear the orthodedic combat sneaker, with the roll bar, that keeps your ankle from turning. They are far from attractive, but anything else is out as I cannot walk, or walk well enough.
I'm sending you a big understanding hug,
SK
BTW, I only go to shoe stores where they measure my foot, I pay quite a bit of money for them but it's worth it to be able to walk, even if it's with a limp sometimes!
Thank you ladies, for all your tips and just for commiserating with me. :)
I still wear a size 6 regular in all my dress shoes though... my feet haven't grown, nor widened. As long as I don't go nuts and wear heels, gym shoes are the only shoes that hurt my feet this bad. I can wear sensible dress shoes every day of the week and my feet will be painful. But 30 minutes in gym shoes on the weekend can nearly bring tears to my eyes. Lol. It must have something to do with all of the support/everything "pressing" on my feet.
When spring comes, I'm going to try a pair of those cheap little canvas tennis shoes. i can wear those without socks, and they are almost like walking right on the ground - no support and almost no material. :P
Waterswaves, I am a fellow Michigander! I'm about 20 miles south of Detroit.
Hello Redwingfan
It sounds as though the arches in your feet have fallen so perhaps you need to wear specially designed orthodics for your feet. Perhaps that is something you would want to persue.
Gentle hugs
Rachel
Shoes are my weakness. I buy them then give them away.
lol and I'm 45 minutes to an hour northwest of Detroit, out near Milford. I was born in Georgia and lived there a lot growing up. We spent some time in South Carolina and Germany because I was an Army brat. I lived in Columbus, Ga when I met my husband and we moved here after we married because he was from Clarkston. I don't deal well with heat so it works better for me up here. We've been married 28 years now lol. Nice to meet you!

Gail in attendance here! : ) I LIVE for pity parties, girlfriend. Boy can I relate about foot pain. I have multiple problems with my feet. It started with two people....a man and a woman..... they both had extremely bad feet and lived in different States. But SOMEHOW they came together, fell in love, got married, and had me......a child born with bad feet genes from both sides! Talk about bad luck, huh? I have flat pronating feet with hammertoes and bunions, nerve pain from neuropathy so I get lightning bolts of wicked pain slicing through my feet (excuse the dramatic description....just the writer in me struggling to get out). I've had two surgeries to remove neuroma's. I also have arthritis in them. I have to try on no less than twenty pairs of shoes to find one that I can tolerate. I suggest seeing a Podiatrist if you haven't already, he or she can make you a pair of orthotics that will be molded to fit your feet. Another issue I have is that my feet are just plain UGLY. I can never wear sandles where my feet show. I look at women with these beautiful feet and how pretty they are showcased in cute sandles and I writhe in envy! Oh well, what's a girl to do but squat and sit on her pitty potty. haha.
Lol, Luvjc, that's why God invented handbags! Except I can't wear them any longer either...
I'm like you with the feet and agree about seeing a Podiatrist. Those orthotics are super comfy for messed up feet.
You've finally given me the right phrase for the occasional pain I get in my feet - lightening bolts. That's a perfect term! And I didn't know it was from neuropathy and nerve pain. Thanks for sharing this info.
I'm sorry you've got the same feet as I have. It certainly is a drag, isn't it? Same old blah pair of walking shoes or sneakers.
Okay, so jewelry doesn't take anything to wear, does it? We can still wear it, lol!
Oh luvjc, what a sense of humor you have! And how important that is when you have to deal with an invisble chronic illness like fibromyalgia.
If you can find a pair of sandals that feel comfortable then wear them. By the time people have realised that we look so good they won't notice anything out of the ordinary about your feet!!!! They look good too! My feet are so hot even in winter that I wear Birkenstock sandals with bare feet. Have you ever tried Birkenstocks?
Oh how we treasure your sense of humor and how glad we are that you found this site and joined our family.
Gentle hugs
Rachel

Where exactly is your foot pain. Mine#s on the soles of my feet, feels like I#m walking on bare bones. I can#t stand to walk in bare or sock feet, it#s too painful. I also have to wear shoes too big, or else I can#t stand it, and I only wear sneakers now adays. I hope you feel better soon, Charlie :)
Charlie, my pain is all over my feet, but especially the heel and ball of each foot... tops, sides and toes all get involved too though. My feet feel better with no shoes.
Sorry yours hurt too.
