Major Surgery Rcovery

Hey there. I’m new to this whole fibro thing and I’m having hip replacement on the 16th. Just wondering if anyone has had major surgery like this and how the recovery was. I’m so extremely exhausted all the time along with the widespread pain. Just wondering how my recovery will be affected since I’m in a full on flair up! Thanks for you insight :kissing_heart:

I broke my ankle in March, the Ankle Specialist said that since I have Fibro my bone will take twice as long (12wks) to heal & a yr to completely heal vs. a person who doesn’t have Fibro. I hope your surgeon understands Fibro. Call his/her nurse & see if there is anything you can do before & after your surgery. Such as taking Magnesium, D, Calcium, a Vitamin B shot, etc. to help your body heal & boost your immune system.

Thanks so much for the info!

I had a three-level lumbar fusion in late July 2016 and got an infection in it, requiring an additional surgery in August to clean it up. I am not sure if the infection was a result of Fibromyalgia, or an autoimmune issue, but I am just now feeling better. It has been over a year. I did also have a two-level cervical fusion in late August of this year. Along with the extended healing time, I have noticed that surgeries will put me into a flare also. I agree with the other respondent who stated to load up on good vitamins and such. After the surgery, be sure to drink lots of water to flush the toxins out of your system. The rule of thumb is to drink half your body weight in ounces of water each day. There are some vitamins you won’t be able to take because they thin your blood. I also recommend using ice when you feel excess pain and swelling as it helps the body heal.

Best of luck to you!
