Does anyone else experience involuntary muscle jerks? I don't mean twitches like you might get in your eyelid. I mean actual movements, although small movements, in places like your knees or shoulders. I used to believe it was RLS, but I'm beginning to doubt that. I have a sleep study scheduled for next month. Maybe i'll get some answers then.
Rosie, hi. Yes I have muscle jerks in my left shoulder and arm. I have not noticed them anywhere else my arm just starts jurking then stops. I have muscle spasms all over so I take robaxin. I have never mentioned the jerks to my dr. Because I feel like I complain about some really strange things anyway so I only mention the most unpleasant things to my dr. I have lymph edema in both arms so I just figured it is a pinched nerve or something. Hope you get an answer.
Yes, Rosie, I have quite often experienced muscle jerks in different parts of my body. I have never asked my doctor about them, I just accept that it happens and leave it at that.
Rosie:
Yep, all the time. It is one of those things that I just sort of accepted as part of the conditions since it doesn't seem to be causing any problems.
I'm also trying to share my new blog regarding Fibro, CFS, and Costo with others who may find support from the pages: dancingintherain-always.blogspot.com
Hoping you find this a restful day,

Hi Rosie,
I am so glad to see your post. I have been experiencing muscle jerking and had no clue what was going on. I am currently in a flare, and couldn’t understand why this is happening too. Mine is happening in my outer thighs and biceps. At least now i know that it is more than likely part of the fibro. Thanks for sharing.
Yes, I do, Rosie but I think mine are due to my night time meds. My jerking only starts after I've taken my night time pill and is usually very mild. Some times an arm or leg will jump up. Usually it happens to my left side. Could yours be a side effect of your meds? I take Nortiptyline at night and I'm pretty sure that involuntary jerking of muscles is a side effect. It might be worth your while yo look up your meds and see it they could be responsible.
Hi Rosie! You will get lots of answers with the sleep study. I had one a little over 10 years ago. At that time I was just about out of my mind with the crawling legs, jumping arms, muscle spasms that felt like the muscles wanted to telescope close. I call the RLS the "Wicked Witch of the West Syndrome" You know when the witches feet rolled up and under Dorothy's house and she got the Ruby Slippers? Ya, feels like that. I also get them in shoulders, arms ,back, terrible belly cramps that you can see happening in the muscle, face, buttocks,I don't think I have a spot that's immune to these spasms/cramps. I think they have morphed from muscle spasms into full on cramping through the years.
Anyway, the sleep study...I was already on Requip 1mg but still having trouble with the RLS interrupting any sleep I might be getting. After the study thy raised my dosage and told me that I had Severe RLS and it was affecting all parts of my body not just the legs. They recommended I take the requip 3/4 more times throughout the day if I was on my feet, light stretching before bedtime, super warm baths w/lavender. I was doing heavy manual labor back then and as soon as I got in the truck to head to the shop...my legs/arms went into overdrive. I nearly pushed my feet/legs through the floor of the truck! It was awful!
Nowadays I carry Requip with me wherever I go and I don't go very often but I have to have it with me for any kind of travel. I take a dose after dinner and another dose before I crawl into bed. I am ecstatic that it has continued to work for my Whole Body RLS all these years. I've never tried any other medication but my Mother has RLS and she had an old school doctor recommend quinine tablets and way back then you could still get them at the pharmacy but not any more. I feel these worked almost as well as the Requip but I couldn't find them anywhere up north. I do, on occasion, when traveling, take Tonic Water with me to drink. It contains Quinine and works better for me when travelling because it doesn't make me sleepy where the Requip does make me a bit drowsy.
Now I know there are some other medications available that treat RLS and they work for some people just as well as the Requip does for me. Requip is hard on the tummy so I always eat prior, just something little.
Fibro and RLS walk hand in hand. I'm glad you are getting a Study done so they can help you Rosie. Feel free to pick my brain anytime!
A belated Welcome to you Rosie...I've not been around for a week or so and have been unable to be online much but will try to be here if you need any help.
Good luck on your appointment! Be sweet to yourself!
