This past July I found a website I have bookmarked and refer back to when I need to research something. The website is Fibromyalgia-Symptoms.org -- here you will find definitions and possible treatments for various symptoms. I went down the list of the symptoms that I have and then went to the tab labeled alternative treatments to see what they recommended. Two symptoms that were really bad for me were the month long migraines and the constant pounding in my legs.
The site describes four types of migraines and recommended magnesium to help with this. I have been taking one magnesium tablet a day since July and have made it past the first change of season with only 3 days of migraines at the beginning of Sept. I have had no migraines since...the next challenge is to make it past the next change of season in Nov. but having taking the magnesium since July I have taken it long enough to build up what I need to get past the hardest days at the beginning of the season change...at least that is what it feels like so far. I am so thrilled this part has worked for me I wanted to pass this along to all those who have had the month long migraines and let you know what I have found is working for me so far.
The other vitamins I am taking for my symptoms include D3, CoQ10, Melatonin, and B12. Again, these were determined by identifying my symptoms and then seeing what is recommended in the alternative therapy section. As far as the pounding in my legs I started in June a daily walk around my neighborhood and have since been able to double the length and walking twice a day now. At the beginning it was very difficult...I needed a cane to walk and was barely making it...but kept at it and now walking without a cane and no longer have the constant throbbing and pounding in my legs. It is becoming more challenging now with the colder weather though and my legs are still getting acclimated to the temperature change. I'm not giving up my walks...have enjoyed them too much...just need to keep finding solutions to the new challenges presented to me!
Two things I have taken out of the website is that everyone's symptoms are different and what works for each individual is different. You will have to see what does and does not work for you. I will say what I have tried that has been recommended has luckily worked for me the first time around. The second point that is very important is that we have to pace ourselves. I have learned the hard way I cannot do what I used to be able to do as quickly as I used to and I cannot do it at anyone's pace but my own.
I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia 14 years ago and the success I have had so far has made a major difference...I wanted to pass along the website and what I have found has worked for me so far. My hope is that you will find information that will be helpful for you and a possible solution or at least some relief in whatever symptoms you are living with. If nothing else it is a wonderful site in explaining the whys of what we are going through. Wishing everyone the best.
