What singifacate changes have you made

Anything that had a marked change in your pain or reduction in pain? Such as deitry, supplements, exercise , and non tradational treatments ???

Good topic. I think that one hour of massage every two weeks helped me the most. The first massage left me feeling very sore, however the therapist warned me and advised me that ice is my friend. Each massage after that left me feeling so much better. I’m not working right now, so I can’t afford massage right now. I could really use one.

Like that .Did this person work with fibromyalgia patients before ?

Yes. I also saw more than one therapist and they all seemed knowledgable.

Hi Kim,

What a good discussion title, hope you get lots of responses.

I started taking Melatonin at night to help sleep, I started low on 1mg a month ago, have now gone up to 2mg, I researched it and the usual dose is 1 - 3mg, but have read on here that some take 5mg so I think it just depends what works for them.

But, I have to say that I am sleeping better, before I'd be awake by 2am, now I sleep till about 5 or 6am.

Strangely I can't get it in the UK so I get from a US supplier on ebay.

Also for pain I've found Ibuprofen 400mg helps most.

Love Lucy xx

I have changed my life drastically! I had to stop working a year ago. Between fibro, trigeminal neuralgia and all if the ancillary problems related to them, it just became impossible to work. I had reached the top of my field, so it was very upsetting to leave. But my drs were right, if I didn’t get off the work treadmill, I would only continue to get worse.

I also stopped working but now I am in the process of hiring a disability attorney. Let the battle begin! I also go to a massage therapist who is a retired nurse and specializes in Fibromyalgia. She does neuromuscular massages and it feels good and relaxes me. I was sore in the beginning but now it just feels good. The thing that stinks is that insurance does not cover this so I have to pay her which is not cheap. I go once every two weeks also. I also try to take short walks but this knocks me out and I have to come home and lie down. I take vitamins but so far no improvement.

I am also waiting for a hearing date for ssd. The good news is that my lawyer told me that ss law says that on appeal, ss must rule with your doctors opinion, which in my case, he says no more work for me. I also go for reflexology therapy, which helps, if only temporarily. I am also trying something called “pstim” and so far, this is the only thing that has lessened my pain by about 30%. You can google it and I urge everyone to give it consideration

I take St. John's Wart. That helps the depression and reduced pain some, because depression does increase pain. I take vitamin D, 8000 IUs a day. Magnesium, but I have found that you need to drink water when you take this and I don't mean a drink of water. You need to drink a lot of water all day or it can cause diarrhea. Speaking of water, I don't drink anything but water very often. Occasionally I will drink a soda, but I know this hurts me, both the aspartame and sugar. I feel worse when I eat MSGs, sugar or carbs. Warm or hot baths in Dr. Teal's Epsom Salt Soaking Solution in the Soothe & Sleep with Lavender right before bed will relax me and put me to sleep. Giving up caffeine helped me sleep too. I can't drink any after about 3 pm or I will be up all night. It can stay with you for 5 or more hours and since I am very sensitive to drugs it stays with me longer. I do take melatonin 3mg sometimes when I know I just can't get to sleep any other way, but only now and then. I have tried it before taking it every night and I have found that it looses its effect if I take it for long period of time. If I take one every now and then, then it always works. I recently started taking fish oil but I don't know if it does anything. Water exercises worked when I had a pool, but I moved and don't have one anymore. Learn to say no and don't feel guilty. If you can't then you can't. Reduce stress and let go of perfection.

Botox for the migraines.

Thank you all for feed back and great information …

I've tried massage and found that to help. I also do yoga, but am careful to know my limits. The past month or so I've tried a cup of hot water, honey and cinnamon ( I also add a little turmeric) first thing in the morning and believe it or not I've felt better.

Gratitude plays a big part of my life too. And I think it's important for me to take a moment to say a short prayer of gratitude to my creator. Little things can mean a lot to us. And you really don't need a lot in order to be grateful or happy.

Do you have any massage schools near you? If so, you can get a great deal on a massage. However, since you have fibro, you might not want to go that route. And I'm like you, massage helped me to feel better temporarily.

Things that help me to reduce pain:

Not working any longer, due to the fibro pain.

Lyrica for pain relief, Nortriptyline for sleeping.

Plenty of rest!!!

Ice packs when pain is intense

Salon Pas over-the-counter pain patches.

hi, am very interested in what things we can do ourselves or have our partners help us with love this topic! Jan

I have tried almost everything I have seen mentioned by everyone here, and got to admit that all of them work for a little while, but after years of progressivly becoming worse,I just can't hack the temporary fixes any more ,do them as long as you can though as pain meds are the same they olny work for so long and they have to be changed,I worry that the cure will not come before they stop working altogether.,the Pychitrist works the best, before this finding this site and it helps immensly.

I'm not surprised to hear that, Sarah. And I share your concern. This is such a tough illness and no one in the medical industry tells you that. I feel like I keep getting worse, with pain moving into new areas and all we hear from doctors is that it's not progressive. Bull hockey!

Hey but I'm glad you've found a way to feel better! I'm also going to give it a try.

Thanks for your honesty, Sarah. It really helps.

Sorry about my spelling as when I get tired I just don't care.I had a paragragh sentto me on my google+ ,where the first and last letters of each word are right but the letters within are out of order,I had no problem reading it,it say 55% of the population can read it. It does seem strange thou like a foreign language when you take it out of context.Hope for a Good day.
