Myofasial release massage

Do you mean a naturapath? I am in Chicago, too and Northshore Rehab has a lot of newer therapies than most places.

I just messages my local massage spa and asked and I got one

The first time I received a massage for pain management was about 12 years ago in Bisbee, AZ. The masseuse and I discussed my expectations and needs, he recommended myofascial release and it is all I have ever requested ever since. Any other type of massage leave me feeling like there is something missing. Personally, I do not understand how anyone finds relief in a pokey, fingers only type of massage. It is true that the process is painful, but afterward, with lots of water and gentle stretching, the after effects can be long lasting. I have found that after a particularly bad flare, if I get a really good myofascial release massage I helps me get back into exercise and stretching. Movement is so important for us and a little bit can make a huge difference!

Gentle hugs!

Just ask your regular masseuse, try a local school, or call around. Check reviews! Not every massage place treats their clients like long term investments.

Does anyone know if Medicare pays for any type of massage therapy? Thanks!

Yes. A chiropractor office has massage therapists and I believe they take medicar. You can ask if a chiro near you has therapist that also has myofascial release training. Also, the 2 Naprapaths I have met take medicare. They are very familiar with fibro patients, moreso than a massage therapist I would think. Good luck!

Thanks very much!! I'll do some checking!

I don’t know if Medicare will pay for it, but if you have something like an fsa plan that allows you to prepay certain health expenses with pretax dollars, a doctors medical necessity letter will make it an allowable expense.

Think about foam rolling, too. It’s self myofascial release and it is amazing. Go slow, drink alot of water and reap the rewards of pain management.

I've just researched therapists specialising in myofasial release massage in my area, and the nearest one to me charges £45 per session, and is about a 20 min drive away, which seems reasonable and the reviews seem good. May well give it a go :)
