Fibromyalgia can get the best of us sometimes. And even limit us from getting out or being active. Im having a really hard time with this. Im 24 people think im so weird. I don’t like tell everyone i have fibromyalgia or make an announcement to the world lol. So from the outside looking in im sure ppl think im super lame. Anyways what are some activities you all do to keep your sanity or get you through the day. Something you enjoy that doesn’t take away all of your energy.
Im a writer. I like to write fiction books but with this memory of mine of the fibro fog lately i haven’t touched my novel. (It kills me that people are looking forward to it and i can’t even think to complete it)
I myself like to read books, go to the library, cook(but lately my hands hurt too bad), good movie, but that’s pretty much it. I feel like everyday is DejaVu. I wake up struggling, finally getto the couch, read, then end up back in bed, then sleep… then repeat. Its driving me nuts.
What are some things you guys enjoy doing?
Want to try?
Looking forward to?
Or what your day consist of?
I could use some friends or someone to talk to. Inbox me any time.
Teesa honey, many people thought I was 'weird' even before I got sick, so it's not a new thing! ha!
Yes, from the couch to the bed, my husband and my Mom know when I fall asleep somewhere to just leave me alone!
I have to do anything with many rest stops in between, so I like TV. I no longer have the powers of concentration to read and retain, and that I am very sorry for. I have books all over the house, that I have collected over the years, and it breaks my heart that I no longer have the ability to read prolifically! My Rheum explained this 'fog' as being the result of "chronic pain, and lack of sleep from chronic pain"! Makes sense to me!
My husband has built me beautiful bookcases, matching sets of these as gifts. When we first met, and I saw his carpentry skills and his wood shop, when he asked me what I wanted for Christmas, my quick response was bookcases! I just got lucky and got another matching set for my birthday! I won't give them up either! I still visit them and read a page or two for comfort. When I went to NYC I actually was ready to throw clothes away to pack my suitcases with books that I bought at the Metropolitan Museum, but my brother grabbed them up for me!
We actually have a few writers here in the fibro group, and they have started a group that you may be interested in joining, just click on the 'groups' at the page top to find these!
We all understand, we all struggle! Please don't feel alone with this! So sorry this hit you and others in your youth! It's hard enough to have this in later years, but a real drag to be fighting this so soon in life!
Glad you posted, good to hear from you, keep laughing!
My passion is knitting, ever since my Mum taught me when I was 15, I'm 47 now so have been knitting for years!! Luckily it's one of the few things that fibro has not stopped me doing, although I don't knit at quite the speed I used to and I have carpal tunnel syndrome which is treated with steroid injections to my wrists every 16wks, my gp is happy to keep doing this as she knows how important knitting is to me!
Also cross stitch seems ok for fibro hands, at least with these 2 hobbies I can sit and do them and pick up/put down whenever my hands need a rest.
What I like about this is that there's an end product which I can give to others or charities etc, I knit tiny soft wool hats for the prem baby unit at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, to keep their little heads warm, I have quite a few thank you cards from Nurses and mums which makes it worthwhile.
Fibro and anxiety meant I had to give up my career as a Nursing Sister of 27yrs, but I was determined that it was not going to rob me of my knitting!
Hi Lucy, so glad you have your knitting, and yes, there is nothing like seeing a finished product, it is very rewarding! I used to embroidery, my grandmother taught me, and we worked on projects together! She tried to teach me to knit and do crochet, but I just never 'got it'!
So glad to hear the shots help! I'm for anything that helps!
I read and I will admit I have started a book over because I couldn't remember what it was about. I knit. I sit on the porch and just sit and enjoy about 5 every morning if I don't have to work.
I seem to be more blessed than most. I read, draw, paint, take pics of birds (even they have to stop & rest), crochet, I play comp games. In the summer time I get to play w/my Grandsons & Grandnieces & Grandnephew. I am teaching my Gnieces how to crochet or I play "IT" & chase them around their 3' deep pool. Just last Thu I had "help" putting up my tent for our annual family camping trip. TYG!!!
