Nervous about psych visit on Tues

The SSI has decided that they need more info so they are sending me for a psych exam. I was called on Friday and was asked if I was going to attend. I of course replied with a yes, as I don't want to be denied because I didn't do what they asked. I do have the jitters about this visit and what will be asked, has anyone else done this and how long after did they get the report and is this a step that will finalize their decision?

I have no experience with this I just wanted to wish you well. Hope every thing works out for you.

I had to do this twice. When I first applied and again after I was turned down. If you have a problem with depression make sure to tell them every negative way it effects your life. I have a problem where I tend to down play things like that. When I went the second time I didn't do that and I was granted my disability. I don't remember how long it took to hear I was approved. I don't think it was too long.

Try to relax. It really wasn't a difficult session. I'll be keeping you in prayer.

Gentle hugs, Dottie S

Dear Jackie,

I haven't done it yet, but surely will have to endure it! Just don't tell them you're fine, spill your guts if you have to, and tell them what is going on with you! With all you are going through this should go okay for you.

My heart is with you, let us know how it went! Just remember that you have over 2.000 of us behind you at all times!

Yes, you do have to go, Jackie. Glad you agreed to it. It will be ok. Make sure that you talk about problems with anxiety and depression if you suffer from one or both of those. My disability was granted as a result of some testing I had done in those areas, not because of fibromyalgia making me unable to work. This is why they want you to see a psych person.

These are trained professionals and will treat you with respect. I have not heard anything negative about such interviews except for the fear itself.

Don't you worry.

Hi Jackie,

Unfortunately, this is one of the necessary evils of applying for SSDI. There's nothing to worry about, just be honest and open -- tell them everything, because the smallest thing can make all the difference.

They will ask you a series of questions, not only about your mental health but also questions to determine if you are legitimately seeking SSDI or trying to beat the system. Sadly, there are way too many of those kind of applicants and they've made everyone suspicious. So now we are forced to endure questions that will see if we're lying about our illnesses. Just relax and don't take any of it personally, remember WHY they are asking such invasive questions, and you'll be fine.

Please keep us posted on how your appointment goes, because I know a lot of us would benefit from knowing the kinds of questions they ask. I haven't had to do this yet, but I worked for a doctor who did the Independent Medical Exams from the Rheumatology standpoint, and he had to make these types of determinations too.

Good Luck Hugs!

How did it go, Jackie? Thinking of you.

I was totally truthful, and answered all the questions! I feel that I made him understand how awful I feel, and that with all of my medical Conditions I told him that I just can’t do it the dr was not very friendly he was matter of factly. I’m fine just anxious to see what results I get. Hugs to you!

Dear Jackie,

I'm so glad that you made it over another hurdle!

I wish you absolute success!

Love and hugs,

SK
