i have a new symtom my balance is off , so if any1has balance problems please let me know thankx!!
I have balance issues, always have but they got worse when I developed Fibro. I am eternally clumsy. Mine is bad enough I walk with a cane to help in case I lose my balance, and it has definitely kept me from falling a few times.
What's odd to me is I can't do escalators anymore. I feel like I'm going to fall when I get on them. So elevators only for me anymore.
Yes, though my Chiropractor helped me through long bouts of vertigo after the last car accident, I sometimes still stagger around, I think mine is just joint damage.
I did also have big balance problems when I tried gabapentin, I know it helps many, but it made me 'reel'.
Hope this is something you can get past in some way. I also wear shoes with a built in roll bar in the sole, it keeps the ankle from turning.
Wishing you well,
SK
I’ve have had balance problems for about 7 years. I had a lot of bad falls.
I now work with a personal trainer (physios work on this too) and we work on balance and a lot on how not to fall over when I lose my balance. I can be walking along and all of a sudden swing to one side or have to stop and stand steady to regain my balance. We’ve worked a lot on shuffling sideways, walking against a resistance band sideways and frontwards and when I start to lose my balance I’m much faster in shifting my weight. I also started Tai Chi recently where there is a lot of shifting weight and rebalancing.
I used a cane for quite a long time. I’m also quite uncomfortable with escalators, although I always thought it was my poor vision (hmm maybe not) .
I hope you can find a way to keep yourself safe
gabapentin did similar things to me, and they never totally went away. Also upped my migraines to daily. Thankfully pregablin doesn't seem to have that effect.
I have major balance issues too.
Dizziness, vertigo, it seems like sometimes I have trouble processing with coming at me whether I’m driving walking.
I have about a fifty foot long hallway in my house. I will bounce off the walls like a ping pong ball back and forth.
My physical therapist is trying to work with me on it although it’s a very challenging effort on her part.
I wish I could give you a tip on it but for me, it’s just there and it something I deal with, in the meantime, I always hope the people are looking at me and thinking that I’m drunk.
Hi Pynkmynk. Yes, I do have balance problems at times. That is why I like to use my cane, along with pain issues. It really helps to keep me upright! Meanwhile, did you start any new meds? I know that when I first stated Lyrica, my balance was way, way off plus I was dizzy. So it's possible that what you're experiencing could be related to your meds.
I'm interested in knowing more about the shoe, SK. Sounds like a Godsend!
