All I am still new to this diagnosis, although I am quickly learning that symptoms that plagued me as long as I can remember now have a reason!!! So I understand some muscle spasming is common i.e. restless leg syndrome. I also have it everywhere sometimes. My back, arms, abdomen, I am laying in bed jerking all over the place. I take klonopin nightly to prevent/reduce it because it is severe enough to keep me from sleeping. Tonight it is driving me absolutely nuts! I actually have had them take over my body (I believe it’s a muscle spasm) that resembles a conscious version of a grand mal.
The rest, excessive saliva is random. Not connected to meds as it comes and goes and meds have changed. It is at times so bad, I have a wash cloth I spit into as I hide in my bedroom. Talk about gross and embarrassing!!! The itchiness seems so random. At times I can take a bath and it goes away, other times it does nothing. Pain meds treat it, however I hate taking them but I have scratched small spots on my arms to the point of bleeding. It is overwhelming and keeps me awake! (During the day I can usually keep myself busy and avoid it for the most part.
The ears…plain and simple - it feels like ear infections in both ears often a few days every few weeks. Its ridiculous. If I go in, it’s irritated and I have gotten antibiotics more often than I can count. They seem useless and I am to the point I just don’t go in anymore. A doctor suggested using peroxide solution in them to help with bacteria. It seems to help, but this week I have done it three times.
Anyone have any insight on this stuff that may help?
Hello & welcome. I get muscle spasms quite often in various parts of my body. I used to only get them in my back from prior back injuries but now I get them just about everywhere. I’m having MS symptoms so I think the widespread spasms might be from that. Many of us with fibro have so many different symptoms & other illnesses so it’s hard to say what causes what.
The other things you mentioned. Are you dehydrated by any chance? I itch all over all the time but I think it’s just because my skin is dry. I’ve had ear problems since I was a baby, constant itching inside & I’m prone to ear infections. A doctor thought it was because my ears were too dry & my ears weren’t producing enough wax to keep from drying out.
Oh yeah,my ears ring constantly which is yet another common symptom with fibro. I like to think it’s because people are always talking about me & saying nice things about me. It’s probably the opposite but as they say, ignorance is bliss. Lol
I actually do take Zyrtec daily. I am itch and ear pain free some days, others I am not so lucky. I am currently using Flexeril as needed at night. It usually works fairly well, but again sometimes I am not so lucky. I have been hospitalized twice for the severity of the spasms/seizures. They get.so bad I have full body involvement and despite muscle relaxers, IM Ativan, and anti-epileptics, they took forever to control again. The first hospitalization was one month, followed by 2.5 weeks a year later. I have been evaluated for epilepsy or another type of seizure by every specialist known to man. They just are stumped. I never lose consciousness and body feels like it is spasming. They are brought on by pain levels remaining too high too long, physical stress, emotional stress, exhaustion
I wake up to them, most occur at night when I have over done it. They also feed of each other because a 45+inute spasm causes extreme pain, meds wear off and we start all over. They have been treated with Robaxin, Soma and currently Flexeril. I also have been on a variety of anti-epileptics, currently Trileptil.
During my last stay I was finally diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. I am trying to solve the mystery of my spasms.
As for the excessive saliva, I have appointments with my specialists on Friday and hope to get more information then.
