No rest for the wicked, apparently

I know sleep issues come with fibro...Or cause fibro, who knows. But does anyone else like just MAGICALLY wake up at some certain time. Like wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiide awake. 0200 has been my time recently...today I slept til 0300 and I consider it a red letter day. Also, it doesn't seem to matter what sleeping pills I take. I took max does of Trazadone and I'm still like "HELLO WORLD" at 0300. Anyone else have this and/or know any tips on fixing it that don't involve heavy doses of sleeping pills?

I have always had certain times I would wake up long before fibro. I was a very light sleeper before I got sick and did fine on 5 or 6 hours of sleep and I always woke up at 345 am and 530am. Of course now with fibro and RA I need 9 or 10 hours of sleep and I always wake up at 200ish and 615am. I don’t go to work until noon so 615 really makes me mad! Unfortunately I have no answer and I don’t take sleep medicine. I seem to sleep like the dead now but its never enough. It is very aggravating to say the least :frowning:

Yeah, I keep cancelling things so I can get more sleep but then I don't sleep and I'm just tired and my friends all think I'm a flake. And my poor boyfriend doesn't get to go do anything (he won't go by himself). *sigh*

Hi not sleeping is a common symptom of most fibro sufferers, the trouble with taking sleeping tablets is that they become ineffective if you take them all the time, part of the reason you feel so fatigued is fibro sufferers wake up many times during the night and never fall into a pattern of sleep known as REM sleep which is short for rapid eye movement it is also when you dream. But most import it is the part of sleep that give you that restorative fuel. Amitripyyline ( Endep ) keeps you from waking continuously and you do not build up a tolerance to it, it is a anti-depressant but it is a common drug used in fibro for the above reasons, I have taken it for years with no problems, but as with all medications some people have had bad experiences using it. But no matter what sleeping pill you take you will build up a tolerance. You can try a anti-histamine like Phenergan or Benadryl that will help with sleep and is a over the counter med, or you can try more natural meds like Valerian which is over the counter but it is hard to get a good nights sleep I share your frustration I wish you all the best

I'm right there with you! Got three hours last night, usually get four. Just like clockwork between 3 and 4 am. Totally sucks! And none of the sleeping pills do a thing for me or the side effects made me worse! It's SO frustrating!! It's one of the first things a lot of doctors/research says to confront and 98% of the time it's "Hello World!"

I haven't had the chance to have it checked myself, but a NR friend of mine said she had something similar and it turned out to be related to hormone levels. When I can get back into my doc, I'm pushing to have it checked inside and out. Cause none of their sleep aids help!

Sometimes I can crash later or I just can't stay awake and other times I'm like that for days on end getting a total of 4 hours a night. Adds a whole knew definition to being wired!

*Hugs*

Yes, I do too. It changes almost every month or two. Usually it’s 4am for me. I either wake up then or can’t get to sleep until then. Unfortunately my doctor would hardly give me sleeping tablets. Maybe four every six months if I am lucky, as I have totally gone bonkers by then. I say that because at the moment I am off all Meds as I am pregnant. So now it’s very much a mind over matter thing, which doesn’t work really.

Before the pregnancy, it was still a major issue of mine. Just as bad as the pain. They both affect each other. One makes the other worse or better. To be honest when I sleep a bit better I still just as crap but a little “safer”.

Routine is very important as is keeping as busy as possible to wear ourselves out but not too much to flare us up. It’s such a delicate balance isn’t it?! Reducing stress is a major factor too as we cannot cope too well when we have a lot on our minds.

I also find eating makes me feel sleepy but it’s not a healthy way to rely on sleep haha. But I do love my food!!
