So up early, again, and so anxious, nervous and possibly angry at the thought of my appointment in 5 hrs with doctor. They must come up with an alternative to the Butran Patches as for various reasons they are not suitable. I will be ’ red flagged ’ for the codeine dependance and because I have tried many meds that have all has their downfall like pregablin, Duloxotine etc, I just don’t think they will have a clue what to do. The only thing I have is Oramorph each month for breakthrough pain which works. But then read last night that you should never wear Butran Patches work Oramorph as it stops the oramorph from working properly.
Sorry for rant but so depressed at mo because as we all know, most docs don’t or can’t care for non cancer chronic pain. Well especially in UK anyway. An interesting day ahead. Take care all x
Lawrence, first and foremost, please try to keep positive. Its ok to vent frustration of course and I know it’s difficult, but stressing about outcomes and assigning them negative results will only cause you greater anxiety if you think about it which may mean increase in pain. There are many other med possibilities… Flexaril, Gabapentin, Savella, etc. to name a few. How is your sleep? You’re up early, so I gather it is not being maintained adequately by new meds? Getting that and the anxiety under control is really important as lack of proper sleep will amplify everything. Please consider mentioning this and your increasing anxiety to your care team as well as what you’ve read of Oramorph in use with Butran. And stay strong. You aren’t alone and you’ve now got help in DART. My best wishes for you tomorrow.
Hugs!
Hello Lawrence,
I am following your posts with interest, to see what type of support/advice you are being given. All that BaltimoreBaby is saying is spot on. You must remain positive, and don't try to second guess what outcomes will be - you might be pleasantly surprised! Yes, vent on here, many of us do -saves our families from that! However, I'm sure you know that takes a lot of energy, and holding on to all that anger and anxiety is very draining. You can do this!
Take care, Anne
Well guys I went to docs yesterday and kept calm. To be fair he said it was tricky due to the problems I had with codeine and also I had tried nearly everything. However he understood about the problems with the Butran Patches so has prescribed fentanyl patches. He believes they are less likely to react, rashes soreness inflammation etc. And I I change every 3 days opposed to every 7 days which may also help. So got one on now and feeling positive. Still having acupuncture which is a huge help. Now I just want/expect my mood to elevate now and I’ll be a happy man.
Thanks guys. You do help with my whole attitude with all this.
So glad to hear that, Lawrence! Sending warm and positive thoughts your way.
Take care, Anne
Good news, Lawrence. Keep up the optimistic outlook and let us know how things go.
Hugs.
I hope the new med works great for you. Stay positive and keep us posted.
