I’d love advice from you all about ways to manage pain. I would like to find ways to deal with it besides more medications. I find that yoga helps and cutting things from my diet as well. Why do you do to help?
Hello Mrs.Mylie,
What works best for me is making sure I pace myself with my daily activities, if I do too much one day I feel it dreadfully the next, so I now spread my chores etc out over the week so I don't have mad busy days.
I can't tolerate strong pain killers, I get awful dizziness and nausea, even with low dose codeine, so I just stick with 2 paracetamol every 4-6 hours and an Ibuprofen 400mg at bedtime.
I've just started Lyrica, which works on the nervous system and the nerve endings, reducing muscle pain, and I am starting to feel more relief from the pain, the best way to take it is am and pm but it makes me dizzy so I just take the bedtime dose now and I am sleeping better as I'm more comfortable and my legs don't twitch anymore in bed, which is nice.
Asking for help is another good habit to get into, something we're often not used to doing in our lives, but if there's something you feel is beyond you, seek help, I learnt this when we were setting up a new home, I was up ladders hanging heavy curtains etc and the next day I could hardly move my arms with such shoulder pain, so I get my husband to help now.
One other tip, invest in a very light weight vacuum cleaner!! I had a very heavy Dyson, but I found it so hard and heavy to use, so I checked the weights before I chose a new one and went for the lightest, It may not be quite as good but it's much easier to use!
I'm also considering buying a shopping trolley, I'm 47 and always perceived them to be for little old ladies! but I'm beginning to see younger ladies with them now as some are quite jazzy and flowery! If I'm popping out for heavy things like milk or potatoes my arms are so painful......so a trolley will be my next purchase!!!
I really think about things now and how they will affect my body and if I think I'm going to suffer I ask for help or don't do it.
Hoping your pain eases and becomes more manageable.
Love Lucy xx
Ty ladies! I will give your advice a try. I definitely want a more light weight vacuum, I have a Kirby and it’s sooooo heavy and hard to use. I have to learn to ask for help, I struggle with that so much.
