Pain management

I went to a chronic pain management program through my health plan at Kaiser Permanente. It was 5 weeks of intensive classes that included feldenkrais taught by a physical therapist, walks, meditation and helpful info on nutrition, biofeedback, massage, acupuncture, and other alternative suggestions. Each participant had their own PT, pain psychologist and pain doctor that worked together to formulate individual plans. The emphasis was on finding alternatives to medication or additional therapies with medication. I was surprised at how helpful meditation was especially autogenics. I am usually too anxious to sit still. They also emphasized the importance of pacing your days and events according to your capabilities, self care, and educating your support team as to what you are going through and how they can help. They had support group meetings for the support people. This was especially helpful for people with unbelieving family members.
My pain will not go away, it will come and go. BUT I found it can be managed with good results.

Hello Mrspeele,

Your pain management programme sounds as it was a very positive experience, and treating everything around you. I am also on a pain management programme in Uk, it is based around mindfulness, hope it is as good. Let us know how you get on.

Take care, Anne
