Just a quick question, does anyone take pain medications along with your other meds such as, gabapentin, lyrica, muscle relaxers?
I find that combined with my other meds, my pain is controlled better with them.
What are your thoughts on pain meds? (Hydrocodone, etc).
It is a half & half question. Half of us take pain Meds & half refuse to take them. I take Hydrocodone without acetaminophen. M
Hi Maddy , same answer pretty much from me is that some do and some don’t . I think it is all rather individualized so really there is no 'one size fits all '
All the best

Maddy,
I take Lyrica, along w Tramadol ER, and Nortriptyline and Tylenol , three times a day. My fibromyalgia is phrased, by my neurologists as fibro neuralgia. I have severe nerve pain throughout my body; especially, on my hands, face and feet.
I suggest that if one is considering taking several meds throughout the day, to consult w their doctor first. But, you are correct, at least for myself, as well, the pain is a controlled a bit better by combining the meds.

Hello,
Yes I take Gabapentin three times a day, Norco three times a day, Cymbalta in morning and 1.5 pills of amitriptipline before bed and helps me get a good nights sleep. I do not take any over the counter medications since I am afraid of causes problems with my scripts.
I know we all like to freely share our combination of pills we take, but each person is different so always best to keep your doctor in the loop.

Please keep in mind that I have other chronic pain issues, but I use fentanyl patches, er Morphine, and added pain meds for flares ups are norco, and percocet.
I know it's a lot, and, it won't be forever, and, hopefully you'll be able to lower the meds in the future, but, I think the most important is to have quality of life. Whatever that takes day by day.
Two non medicinal treatments that help me a lot are using a TENS unit, and, using lidocaine cream. For the TENS unit, you'll need help placing the electrodes, and the cream, I use a lot of it, as the pain is so wide spread. (If only we could bathe in it)
maddy, I wish you luck in this. I've tried everything, in doing so, I've gone backrupt. I've now seemed to find what works for me.
You will get frustrated, angry, lonely, desperate, etc.. Keep pressing forward, it'll work out.
Ha, I've made the same joke about bathing in the lidocaine!
Anyway, I actually take quite a lot of medication. Specifically for the pain I take time released morphine twice a day for overall pain management and then hydrocodone during the day for breakthrough pain and oxycodone at night for breakthrough pain (some people find one to be heavier than the other and vice versa but for me the oxy has more of a sedative effect as well as tamping down the pain better so it's the one i take at bedtime). I also take ibuprofen 2-3x a day. I used to have lidocaine patches but my insurance won't cover them anymore, so my doctor is letting me try the gel to see if that helps.
I completely understand and respect other people's choices to avoid pain meds, especially the narcotic/opiod ones. But for me, I've found my life is too unbearable without them. I need them to help manage the pain. I'm still never not in pain, but they help a lot.
The only meds I’m on currently for fibromyalgia are pain meds, nucyenta ER (once daily) and then nucyenta IR for breakthrough pain. In the past I was on a combo of tramadol, Tylenol, and flexeril. I think the nucyenta is stronger (in comparison to tramadol) but I feel like it wears off faster & it is very expensive if insurance won’t cover it or if you haven’t met your deductible yet. I went on it because tramadol was losing its effectiveness after taking it for years, but because of the cost I will likely be switching back to tramadol.
