I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions for managing long hair. I don't look good with short hair but caring for my hair has become quite a task.
I have to use a curling iron or the Instyler and it takes a little over an hour. My arms and neck ache terribly when I am finished.
If any of you have found an easier way to get through this, please share.
I have a positive pick me up to share, I pick one day and work on one room in small increments. I may dust the entire living room, rest for an hour or so, then vacuum the living room, rest again, then pick up and put items away that don't belong there. On the next day, I choose a different room, and do the same. If I have an energy spurt I will use that time to grocery shop, run errands, etc. I usually try to rest the entire day after a shopping day.
Hi! I am 68 and have long hair because I like what I look like in long hair.it is a natural blond with agrey mix.it is normally dry,so I use Silkience or something like that so give it some condition. Pony tails are in style so I wear one or twist it on my head with a crunchey Barrett.I do not use heat to curl it ,I cannot reach that high and my arms hurt.
Hi, Sunny, these are some great suggestions from Dallas. And if you’re feeling like curls once in awhile you may try out curlers. You could leave them on during day before a night out and you won’t need to curl later. Braids are also in fashion right now, too, if you feel like a change-up. They also save washing your hair for a few days. And dry shampoo or baby powder is great to cut oil for a day or two after washing hair. Less work!
Hello! :) I have problems managing my long hair as well. I have strawberry blonde hair, and it is the longest it has been since I was a teenager. I find cute up do hair styling videos I want to try on youtube, and then cannot complete them because of pain in my arms. I usually give up and put my hair up with a clip and feel really frustrated afterwards.
Thanks for your reply. It is helpful just to hear that I am not the only one with this problem. Many of my friends keep suggesting that I cut it but I can't do short hair any easier. I still have to reach up and style it and it HURTS. I feel your pain. I just try to thank God that I, at least, have hair.
Try a simple headband . They don't have to squeeze your head either. Find one with a good soft touch that will stretch. Or you could try a cute barrett.
I have curly hair just past my shoulder in length, and wear it in a pony tail almost every day. I think because of the curls maybe it looks fancier than it is, but I don't have the energy to spend time doing my hair in the morning, nor the strength and bow to all you people who take on that task. I do use a variety of different scrunchies, clips, barrettes to dress up the "tail, Thanks for sharing.
I have long hair and know the pain of trying to take care of it might sound silly I sit down flip my hair over and brush it out I flat iron and tie it up or clip it it helps with the neck pain and sitting you save energy my hands will tingle so I’ll shake em until I can use em again hope this helps
I had hair down to my hips until last week. since my fibro, it had become too hard to take care of it...I went with shoulder length, throw a few curls in it and im done. I don't look good with short hair either but with the shoulder length, at least I can do it up and feel good about myself and it doesn't take near as long and my arms don't hurt so much. I love the one room work too! going to have to try that. Great Idea! Going to start with my bathroom so I can look in the mirror and see how nice my hair looks today! yes, I actually done it up today! Hugs to ya
Personally I have hair that is long it goes down past my lower back. I go to the salon to get my hair washed every couple weeks and my fiance helps when I'm in need, I suggest not to try dry shampoo as it just seems to mat your hair together and leaves it with residue that makes you hair feel strange,
I agree with being newly diagnosed last November I’m learning how to deal. It’s great to see other people handling this awful condition. It gives me hope and comfort to see the different tricks people use to live with it. Thank you everyone
I used to have long hair - before fibro, but sadly drying and styling became much to hard. My solution was to have it cut to shoulder length, I quickly. dry it without styling (apart from my fringe) and I then secure it in a ponytail and attach a hairpiece.
This gives me the appearance I am looking for but with far less pain and energy involved.
