I find it tough to curl my hair with the barrel type ones and I end up hurting myself in one way or another. I am sure that others have issues with this when you want to not sacrifice beauty or want a nice night out. Well I found the solution for curling my hair, working better than the other curling irons. It's automatic and really cool and makes gorgeous Curl Secret and it's an As Seen On TV product and my goodness it works and doesn't hurt! :) Just a little tip as I found it yesterday.
I have the old fashioned overnight curlers but I got soft, bendy kinds… They are no fuss at all.

I have had that same problem, I burn myself with the curling iron. I switched to a straightening iron and that helped quite a bit but I am thinking of getting the mitten that allows you to touch the curling iron. I just cut my hair into a pixie so I don't have much hair to curl. I have seen the curl secret on TV and wondered if it works. I might get one for my daughter for Christmas. Thanks for the info.
