I had a full back MRI done this year. The ortho (Who was a total jerk, but I won't go into that), told me that I have an odd hinge in my back right above the tailbone, which is probably causing this pain. Oddly enough, I can bend forward fully without much pain at all, but I can't bend backwards due to the bend. Apparently all part of having scoliosis.
Hopefully an MRI or X ray can shed some light on this.
I have had this deep, aching tail bone pain for more than a year; the only thing that seems to help is moist heat along with my usual pain meds for other chronic stuff. I thought this particular pain was from my ankylosing spondylitis.......It's hard to separate symptoms for me because I have several "conditions" that are apparantly caused by my HLA-B27.
Oh Ally, this must really be a hateful pain. I don't have scoliosis, but have stenosis of the tailbone, it's a pain beyond words sometimes. My heart is with you, my friend. You can come to me anytime.
Oh Mimi, so sorry to hear of the AS. My type of Psoriatic arthritis is the spondylitis type, and you cannot study spondylitis without being exposed to the info on ankylosing spondylitis. I am so very sorry that you have this.
May I ask what they treat you with med wise? A biologic?
HI Mimi - I have ankylosing spondylitis too. It was diagnosed at the same time as my Fibro was many years ago. From some of the books I have read about Fibro, anklylosing spondylitis is not uncommon for us to get. It saddens me how all of us literally scramble around to find good doctors, meds and support. I jokingly tell people here, that we seem to spend more time trying to find things that will help us as opposed to taking care of ourselves! Well, it sure seems that way to me! I haven't had any serious tailbone issues.....yet! But every once in a while, I will get a little spasm there - sometimes after I have sat down too long. Years ago, I did fall on my tailbone a couple of times, and I can really sympathize with you - because the pain was just horrendous! It just took my breath away when it happened too. Moist heat is my friend!! (Smile). I found a really good one at Walmart that I can microwave. It has beads in it. I don't care for the electric ones, so I am happy with what I found. Hang in there - and know we are all here to support you and help you in any way we can! Laurie
