Does anyone else suffer from this?
This is by far my chief complaint (pain wise) well, slightly worse than my ribcage, back and shoulders. My tailbone is causing me a lot of pain. Obviously, mostly when I am sitting. When I’m walking and standing it even bothers me.
Yes mine is hurting alot!!! I did have a surgery back in 86 to remove a cyst from it. But lately it hurts quite abit. To the point where I have to try and lay down. and my ribcage and neck lower back and hips. I wouldnt wish this on my worst enemy!!! Im having having a hard time finding a good dr to help with everything. I hope you get some relief soon.
Hugs,
Sue
Hi Sue,
This may be a long story.. but here goes.... I too have fibro.. was diagnosed with it about 10 years ago.. im 57 now... well... you already know what the pain is like.. but when i started getting pain... like which i actually thought was drilling into my bones.. i kept asking the dr. if it could be something else... she mentioned psoriatric arthritis and i didnt have a clue what it was... well.... after 10 long years... i was diagnosed with it just last october.. I dont know if it was me just not wanting to accept i had another disease...i saw subtle changes... like my toenail... was getting ridges on them.. almost turning black... my fingernails getting ridges... the psoriasis started many years before - probably when i was in my late 30's... i went to the dermatologist... - they said that the psoriatric arthritis is hard to diagnosis.. but i guess over time... it made it easier... i had been taking methotrexate and some topicals for the psoriasis.. that kept it in check... but the pain... was so intense... i couldnt stand it... I am still working full time... it is a struggle every day... I cannot do hardly anything but work.. make a few meals.. and that is it.. It is so frustrating... just making a bed.. vacuuming.. yard work.. it is sooo stressful... Im sure you understand what i am trying to say.... I don't know if you may have the same symptoms.. it is just a thought....
I am on Enbrel now.. and that pain is gone... thank goodness... the fatigue.. unfortunately is not... but I keep plugging along with the help of caffeine and a little bit of vicodin.. lol....
HI Tina - you may have a trigger point there along with the others you have. I remember a drawing in a medcial book that was about Fibromyalgia. This was about a year ago. It showed where Fibros have triggers points. However, the article did say that trigger points can be elsewhere as well. I know it must be really painful because despite the fact that I don't have a problem in my tailbone, I have fallen a few times on it - and WOW!! Talk about pain!! Feel better!! Hugs!! Laurie
HI Sue - I feel so bad for you, not being able to find a good doctor. It seems to be a major complaint among us Fibros! I actually think that sometimes, we spend more time trying to get help then we do taking care of our pains. It's just so time-consuming in what we need to do in order to be heard and understood with all that we go through Like you, I am in the process of getting a new Rheumy as well. I don't care for the doctor I have now and my nurse recommended a wonderful doctor, that is a female - and I think I will do better this time around Over the years I have found that female doctors maintain their compassion for those that are in pain. Most woman have that nurturing thing going on that really plays out well when there is a crisis or sickness involved. Also they really do listen to what you have to say and are kind. This is what I want, especially with my FIbro. I wish you success in finding a new doctor and hope you feel better soon! Hugs!1 Laurie
Umm okay, thanks guys!
I haven’t fallen on my tush lately, so I don’t believe that’s causing it.
Thank you Laurie and Sue for your replies!
Thanks…will look into that also!
Are you double jointed at all? A lot of people who are hypermobile get pain in the tailbone from what I was reading. I have Ehlers Danlose Syndrome with Hypermobility (HEDS), and I have come across tailbone issues listed when reading about it. Like Laurie said there could just be a trigger point there also.
Okay, that is where my pain started before I was diagnosed. I was crying with pain, and pain pills did nothing until a doctor finally did a CAT scan and discovered I had a broken coccyx. After about 3-5 epidurals, the pain level was nominal. Yea, for a different pain dr. The other just wanted to drug me. If you haven’t, get checked. AND I did not remember ever falling on it.
I often have that problem when I have been sitting in the same spot for a while. It is awful when I stand up. However it goes away after a few minutes.
Yes, I woke up one morning about 2 weeks ago and felt as though I had had a nasty fall. My taibone felt broken, it was very hard to sit, stand and walk. It is still painful now but not as bad. I hope yours eases soon.
Hugs
I used tohave that about 10 years ago or so. I was seeing upteen chiropractors at that time and working full time. It went away eventually although i don;t know if it was treatment or migration.
i have to sit with several pillows under me and behind me i have disc degeneration from my thorasic down to my tail bone and when the fibro acts up the pillows really help and i have to sit with my feet on a foot stool with pillows on it as well hope it helps each person is different so pillow softness or hardness will vary but i found it does help alot but not completely hope u try it
ok, now I have been told I have Degenerative Disc problems…maybe that’s it.
I think I’d almost wish it was broken, at least maybe it could heal then! It really gets to me. I sit, my tailbone hurts…I lay down on my side and hips hurt…I lay down on my back or tummy and my back goes into spasms. - There’s nothing left!!
Was fibro for me, sorry not for you.
Good luck.

Hi Tina - you are describing Fibro perfectly!! We just can't find a comfortable spot, even when we lay down! Your back problems are very similar to what I have. It's Ankylosing Spondylitis. I developed this about 5 years after I got the Fibro. You may be right that your back problems may be affecting your tail bone. On rare occasions, all my trigger points flare up. When this happens. I don't know what to do with myself I hurt everywhere. I can't lay down, stand up, or sit down. I do cry though, because it hurts so much when all the triggers are going haywire. If that isn't pain, I don't know WHAT is!! I am sorry you are hurting so bad. Hope you get some relief soon! Love, Laurie
Laurie,
It is late here but I will definitely be reading up on Ankylosing Spondylitis. Pheew, I can barely spell that let alone say it! Anyway, I was really feeling earlier or rather later last year, that I am just falling apart!! Literally! First, Fibro…then severe Osteoarthritis & hip replacement, now they want to do the left one.
Then I’m told my back has two bulging discs and now this tailbone stuff. The doc had mentioned degenatrive disc disease before but is that due to the osteoarthritis…or this Ankylosing Spondylitis? I mentioned DDD to my bf tonight and he was like…“oh…this is something new!? Like they think it’s that instead of the Fibro?” He’s lucky it was a phone conversation because I’m sure the look I had on my face was one of utter disgust.
Ok, guess now I will have to do a lot more reading tomorrow.
Thank you for all your input…it really helps!
I have pain in the "hinge" between the last back vertebrae and the tailbone. Sitting, lying down, standing, doesn't matter when it's at it's high point. Rheum said I have a trigger point there (I have triggers all along my hips and back, he was "impressed" how tender that area was when I was first diagnosed). I'm sure you've tried a lot of things, heat seems to be the only one that helps me much, I only recently finally got a good pain med, but I'm not sure I can take it cause it makes me sleep and have nightmares.
Thank you sooo much!! I am going to bring this up at my next drs appointment. If I can wait until March 6th, I researched it and I do have most of the symptoms.
I hope that everyone who experiences this pain will be asking for x-rays or MRI's of this area! I have a Drs order for a new MRI of the upper and lumbar spine.
