Tips and Tricks to survive the Holidays!

What do you all do to get through doing cleaning/kitchen stuff withou hurting too much more? For instance, I sit down to cut up vegetables instead of trying to stand. I also gather all the ingredients together before I start so I don't have to keep running (figurtively speaking) across the kitchen.

So, what are your tips/tricks?

A great tip is to make your cookie doughs when you are having a good day, ball them, then stick them in freezer bags. Then when it's time to bake, pop them on a cookie sheet and toss them in the oven! Most doughs will last in the freezer for 3 months. This is a great way to have a great variety of cookies without spending the whole day in the kitchen!

I use the sitting method you described to do pretty much everything. Only ... I wonder why I hurt so much while driving and do not hurt when I am sitting anywhere else?

That's a cool idea (no pun intended) :)

If i'm driving a lot and the traffic is bad...I tense up my shoulders and so the top part of me hurts more at the end of the day.

I hate to drive now and get my hubby to drive where ever he will. I prep as many as my foods as I can and this year I am so lucky to have my Mom here and she is helping me... I love every minute of it. We are going to my daughters in the morning for breakfast so everyone is helping.... I wish you all a very Merry Christmas, Gentle hugs, Robin

My husband has never driven me places unless: a) I just got out of the hospital or b) he has an hidden motive for going with me (he wants to go to best buy). Don't get me wrong, my husband has many good qualities but I know his weaknesses/quirkes/things he cannot or will not do. He can't cook unles it comes out of a box, he doesn't want to learn because handling raw meat grosses him out. I don't have children or other family members who live nearby or the ones who do, don't want to be a part of my life. So I end up over-doing just because life goes on...

Merry Christmas to all...didn't mean to rant...Hugs, Lil Al

Yes, when I met him, he would open a can of beans and eat them out of the pan... :) He's was in the military so he didn't have to worry about cooking.

Hi Lil Al,

I sit to peel, chop and just about anything else that I possibly can. Everything is chopped the night before for the stuffing. The Dining Room table is fully set ahead of time right down to trivits, serving bowls, spoons, meat platters, forks, and another table cloth thrown over it to keep things clean. Things like the cranberry sauce or pickles and olives are placed in the bowls and covered with Saran, with forks, so it's ready to go. I also do the flower arrangement the day before and put them in the fridge. I use the small salt and peppers, that come packaged by the dozen, so that there are plenty of them on the table, I use water pitchers for gravy, just make sure you fill them with hot water to warm them, before adding the gravy, so they won't crack.

I use a server as a dessert station, with plates, forks, napkins, I also try to have a beverage area as well with ice chest and scoop, glasses and beverages like soda, iced tea there for them to help themselves.
