I saw this topic presented before, I believe the last conversation I saw was in May 2015. I see some of you have dealt with this. I am looking for anything you want to offer concerning this treatment. My docs took me off pain medication and are currently only offering this. Not that I particularly want any more shots then I already take.
I am only on Lyrcia and Cymbalta then I can go in and receive a trigger point as needed. It does help and they do not prescribe narcotics Virginia is cracking down on that.
That sounds like what they are working on doing here in Missouri. I was just wondering about the shots. I guess more like worried about the shots. I give myself a humira shot every other week and it burns like crazy and usually I am in bed the whole next day. I am just worried how my system is going to react.
Hey there and happy Easter! I did trigger point injections one time. Unfortunately it didn’t work at all for me. I could hardly move my arms the next morning because the pain was so bad at the injection sites. So that was the first and last time I tried that. I hope you find something that works for you. I take gabapentin and tramadol. Doesn’t work much, but can’t tolerate Savella, Cymbalta, etc.
Well this does not sound very good. They have taken away any form of pain medication. I am so angry. I have been on pain meds along with other meds for several years and it works for me. I do not over use it. I take it when I absolutely need it. I just do not understand. I am beginning to feel like a test subject.
I was given a shot a few months ago and for the few hours it worked. Unfortunately after about 7 hours I felt so much pain I regretted letting them give it to me. I am not sure what the name of the shot was. Do any of you know of shots that have worked with pain that does not make you regret having it after a few hours or the day after?
I have had several rounds of trigger point injections, most have worked quite well. They are supposed to be for release of muscle spasms that are from the muscle fatigue. I get knots in certain muscles, sometimes from particular kinds of exertion. The insertion of the fine gauge needle into the spasm interrupts the spasm and it relaxes. I don’t find the injections overly painful, as there is lydocaine (or similar local anesthetic) used. Sometimes the muscle jumps or twitches as it relaxes. It doesn’t otherwise burn or anything, because it’s merely the physical insertion of the small needle that is therapeutic, not any substance that is being injected like a shot. I’d say it is less painful than a flu shot.
I wrote more about my experience with TPI just previously, but I wanted to say it’s not like getting an injection of a medication. It does help to put an ice pack on the spots afterwards, if you feel it might help. Yesterday, I put an ice pack on a shoulder spot but not on the others as I drove home. No pain, bruising, or anything on any of the locations.
Hey PinkCat I think we all feel like test subjects at one time or another, I have gotten so hesitant at trying something else. You know when something is just sort of helping but not quite you would rather stick with what you know than what might make you feel worse and you have to start all over again. I try to keep thinking on the bright side remember when you didn’t have what you have now and how you felt? Ok, but damn’t I want to feel good again right.
