Hi Tina!
This is a frightening and frustrating situation. I've been there...and recently. The advice you've received is good advice. The only thing I would add is that if at anytime you lose control of your pain or your withdrawal you should have someone take you to the ER and have a med list so they know what you're coming off of. Or call 911, don't try to drive yourself.
I am so sorry you are going through this but you will live sweetie and then you may be able to sort out what helps you with your pain and what doesn't.
I wondered if you checked the DOCTORS tab above for ones recommended in your area.
I think you should do some scouting out for a new one. A rheumy will treat the conditions you present with and it may take some weeding out of meds before you hit on the right combo but your pain management should be in the hands of your General Practitioner.
That's all I've got. I wish you the best and if there is anything you need, a shoulder, a hand...I would be happy to help.
Be sweet to yourself Tina...I'l be keeping you in my thoughts.

My Rheumy did provide pain medication for my symptoms as well as the other necessary medication. I don't know why your doctor told you that they wouldn't. I too just had a really bad experience with my primary doctor about medication, I won't got into detail. I decided not to argue with him but to take it up with another doctor. I don't have time to deal with degreed ignorance.
Maybe the Rheumatologist wont prescribe the Narcotics... When I seen mine I told him straight up I refuse to take a Narcotic..He then looked at me and said "I like you" LOL... well for me it is my preference not to be on narcotics as my job will not allow my in the plant while taking them... I do not know at this point if I am going to be able to do my job just yet as I have not been back to work since all of this has hit me... but I have found much relief with the Cymbalta, trazadone, and norotin...and I did sign a pain contract with my Rheumy... I can only take what he prescribes...and he has a step program he goes by...BUT he did not prescribe the Cymbalta or the Trazadone... but was made aware that I had already been started on those meds... that is when he added the Norotin...
