Venting

I ran into an issue with my mail order pharmacy and while it has since been worked out I have run out of pills. I have no cymbalta and no tramazone or however you say/spell that. Two weeks ago I would have told you that I thought they helped a little but I didn't think it made a huge difference. But today being day 5 with no meds. to speak of I will sing a different song. I have pain that has doubled me over in my ribs, femur and neck. My back muscles only what to be sitting up exactly as I am now which is not conducive to sleep and I am having panic attacks again. Last night the demons were after me in my sleep and I knew I was dreaming but I could not wake myself. When I did eventually escape them into a state of awesomely full wakefulness at 2 am, I was soaked to the skin with sweat and I was freezing... complete with teeth chattering. awfulness.

So If you ever hear me selling my drug regiment short.. remind me of the week without them. Between the sudden onset of a vertigo they can't seem to put there finger on a diagnosis. (and yes, I'm tired of falling between diagnosis I almost have this but it really acts more like that but... My GP is satisfied saying that he has ruled out BPPV but I am not so sure for at the same time the vertigo showed up I began to feel I wasn't able to hear out of my right ear. like I could a week ago... go figure.

Dear Dusty,

This sounds like a bad case of with drawls! This can be dangerous to just simply stop these meds, as I am sure you are fully aware of. Please contact your Doctor, go to the nearest ER, UC, take the number of the pharmacy by mail, in case they need to verify this, and try to get some meds to hold you until you receive them!

There has been far too much of this going on either the Doctor's office, the Pharmacy or both, and people are suffering terribly as a result!

I know, we really do not always know how much our meds help until we stop them! Even then we need to be weened off them!

Sending my best, hope you can get the meds ASAP,

SK

Dusty,

"Ditto!" Everything SK said. I've always been able to get a prescription for a small amount of a medication to hold me. Again please get at least your Cymbalta A.S.A.P.! Withdrawal from that can be dangerous.

Hope you feel better soon,

Dottie S.

I’m trying Savella because I’ve heard all of you sing it’s praises. I’ll be weaning off cymbalta. Trazadone is what allows me to sleep. Without it, I would never get any zzzzzs. I can’t imagine being without them. Gentle hugs and much love dusty.

I also have vertigo with my fibro. My doc calls it unexplained vertigo but he did give me an antivert scrip for it. I only take it when I need to but I’m glad I have it ! Just hang in there and I know what you mean about not realizing how much your meds help until you don’t have them. I had the same trouble a week ago. Hope you get them back soon and feel better!

I have to agree with SK. Sounds like a really bad case of withdrawal symptoms!! Mine wasn't quite as bad, but went through something similar about a month ago. Had my first screaming flashback at 4am. Scared the heck out of my husband to wake up to me screaming at the top of my lungs. Turned out to be withdrawal symptoms...horrible!! Hope you get feeling a LOT better!!

Hugs,

Butterflydragon

Yes Dusty the real test of how effective our meds are is when we are out of them for a few days. Then the pain is absolutely unbearable. I was not out of certain meds, but I decided to find out whether they were very effective so I stopped taking them and in less than 24 hours I was in such agony I could hardly walk. I needed my cane and the support of the walls in the hallway. The pain was unbelievable and sleep was so scarce that the next day I was absolutely useless. So, I took them and fond that my body took a day to really help me. I guess it needed the day to flood my body.

I have done that also, I have gone to the ER…
I hope you get yourself there asap…

dear dusty ~ I am soooo sorry for this misery you are in and agree that you need emergency room attention NOW. this is awful!! will be praying sweetie.....hugs, annie

Dusty,

So sorry this happened to you ! Very unsettling to say the least . I am sure by now you have taken heed from the others on the site and went to the emergency room. Definitely an emergency you found your self in . Its hard for all of us you have to pay such close attention to your meds and when they need to be refilled. Its a job in itself. Wish I could help in some way ! If only people could understand everything that comes along with Fibro . The commercials on TV describe it as aching .....aching ??? Its pure pain !! Not to mention the anxiety and brain fog.

I have experienced the same as you during sleep . Especially as of late ( a lot of stress in my life at the moment ) I have the worst night mares and wake up just as you sweating and then instantly get the chills . I am sorry are experiencing this along with your med. situation . Its frightening when you awake like that . If any comfort you are not alone . I can not take trazadone, Ambien or even night time tylenol . I get awful night mares from all of them . I finally took a different course in Jan . 2013 after joining a chronic pain support group ( for all pain not just FM ) and discovered a medication called Vyvanse . Two other woman in the group were using it and claimed it changed their life.. It has dopamine, non epinephrine and amphetamine all in one . It cures my chronic fatigue, gives me the desire to want to do join life again which enables me to keep very busy and I do not sit very much at all. By the time bed time rolls around I am exhausted and get a good 6 straight hours of sleep !! I remember when I use to take SSRI's I would sleep constantly they never made me think clearer or made me any happier or energized so I stopped taking them 5 yrs ago and went without all of them except xanax . Since no one ( family , friends, doctors etc ) get this disease I get terrible anxiety worrying about everything at times and I know if I call someone they ,at this point, get annoyed . I can kind of see their side . There is not enough information out there explaining to the public explicitly what Fibromyalgia does to a person , so they think you are just complaining . Well I hope you are feeling much better and have the medication you need !! When I read your post I felt so bad for you .

My mail order company supposedly has an email notification system that tells me when I need to re-order. That sounds great except I've never gotten a single damn e-mail notification and as a result, I have run into the same situation you wrote about.

More than once, I've raised a stink and here is what I've done. I called my doctor, my local pharmacy and my insurance company to make them aware of the situation. Here is what I DEMANDED (nicely):

  1. I needed my insurance company to authorize a two-week emergency supply of the medication I didn't get.
  2. I needed my doctor to write a two-week emergency prescription and fax it to the insurance company.
  3. I also needed my local pharmacy to fill the Rx as soon as they get the OK from the insurance company.

Now, when I say I "demanded", I only really did so with the insurance company. My doctor is used to such screw-ups and is great in terms of getting the Rx out the door ASAR (as soon as is reasonable). God Bless that man and his incredible staff and the employee codes which they live paycheck to paycheck by. Also, the local Pharmacy is terrific if you call, ask to speak with the pharmacist is charge and explain the problem. My father was a pharmacist for 56-years and here is what he taught me. When a man and a woman are in love...Here is what else he taught me (when it comes to pharmacist). It is more true today in the age of chain pharmacies in which the local independents have been bought out by the CVS's, Walmarts, Giants, Costco's, etc., Pharmacists are rarely treated with respect anymore. Most people are only interested in getting in and out of the pharmacy as quickly as possible. Furthermore, to help facilitate this, chain pharmacies bring in low-paid pharmacy techs to do the tasks that pull the pharmacist away from keeping the line moving. In an ideal world of the chain pharmacy, the pharmacist fill presciptions and the techs answer the phones, deal with the customers, man the drive thru lanes, answer general pharmcy questions (like where are the laxatives?), etc.,

But the scetret to getting stuff done is to call the pharmacy and ask to speak to the pharmacist. Tell him/her that the mail order company screwed up and you need them to fill an emergency order for a two-week supply. Give them whatever info you have and ask how you canhelp facilitate getting this done. They should be able to take it from there but it helps if you treat them like professionals and tell them how much you appreiate their time and efforts.

I used to watch my father work behind the counter at his pharmacy and it was like watching Monet painting or listening to Ella Fitzgerald scat. The true art of getting around the loopholes created by today's beurocracies is to appreiate the efforts of the people who help you fix the problems caused by other people's ineptitude - this could be a person or a company policy. The bottomn line is to be results oriented and to be your own advocate. If you do not look out for yourself, who will?

I wish you the best of luck. Try and get those meds tomorrow. you can do it. you really can.

Marc
