hi. my main docs are my primary care physician and my neurologist. They both know that i am very sensitive to drugs whether starting or tapering off and i will do both very very slowly. Any other doc i deal with will be told the same thing since i know how my body works.. I wish you all the best

I had a really hard time coming off of Cymbalta. I actually had to go on a low dose of Prozac for a few weeks while tapering the Cymbalta, then tapered off the Prozac.
Ugh, I have been there. It does suck. How long have you been without Cymbalta? When I stopped it, it was terrible. The brain flashes were the worst!
I spoke to my doc and I ended up having to restarting it at a different dosage. I looked online and found that a lot of others had this same problem with a discontinuation syndrome. I wrote down what I found and took it with me to my appointment. What I found was that people had the best success with a slow, long taper. The available dosages were not sufficient to cover this sort of taper. The doc had me make my own doses. It required a magnifying glass and patience, but I made my own doses. Ask your doc to prescribe several doses of capsule… They come in 20mg, 30mg and 60mg. They may even be able to give you sample packs so that you don’t have to pay for all of that. Talk about what to do if you drop to the next dosage and have severe symptoms. Should you jump back up to the previous dose or keep on the lower dose. It will be difficult, but the slower, longer method will give you less symptoms.
Please talk to your doc. My symptoms just seemed to keep going until I did a lower taper. They really need to make a published taper for this drug, so that people don’t have to suffer through the withdrawal syndrome, but because everyone reacts to it differently, some simple guidelines would work too. I’m sorry you’re having to deal with this.
Follow the directions that the doc gave you to taper down to the 30mg capsule, then a 20mg capsule. So, in all, you’ll want to go from your highest dose (example: 120, 90, 60, 30, 20, 15, 7.5, then every other day at the smallest dose) to your lowest. Ask your doc how to make the doses below 20 mgs. If the doc gave you a specific amount of days on each dose, make sure to follow that to the letter, and call if you develop symptoms when switching doses. With the long and slow method, you shouldn’t have as many. Good luck!
