I was recently prescribed Cymbalta but am going to discontinue it because I feel a lot of my recent flares have come from or made worse by this medication.
The first day I took it I had the worst flare that I have had in months……
My BF keeps mentioning that it might be worth trying to off all my meds and see how I feel……
Has anyone done this and had positive results?
I am considering going off of some…… Iv actually stopped taking so many vitamins and supplements because I felt my whole breakfast was pills.
So I am stopping the Cymbalta. Iv only been taking it a few weeks and just can’t do it.
I am also on Gabapentin 1200mg, Wellbutrin 300mg, levothyroxine 50mg, Occella(birthcontrol), meloxicam, and muscle relaxers.
I understand that I cant come off Levothyroxine. I have hashimotos and that wouldn’t be good. But I also feel like iv benefited from these other drugs…… Maybe they are doing more damage…… I also wont go off my Birth control. I feel slightly dependant on my muscle relaxers too…
Has anyone had luck going off of them?
Or any suggestions on natural paths to recovery?
Your thoughts and experiences would be much appreciated.
I am sorry to hear you are going thru this. I am not taking Cymbalta but some of the meds out there, you have to wean off of. Call your MD & see what you two can come up with.
I would strongly suggest you talk to your Dr. Before stopping any of your meds. We have to listen to our bodies I do know that the Cymbalta made me feel strange and the twitching got worse. my pain level dropped but I felt drunk...I continued taking it and the symptoms I was having stopped. With all meds some work for other people and don't for others. Does you BF have fibro or Hasimotos? Please see your DR. and slowly stop any meds.
also please keep in mind that although gabapentin and lyrica are used to treat pain they are also anti- epileptic drugs and can actually cause a seizure if abruptly stopped. please talk to doc.....
Cola, I,ve just gone off Cymbalta and feel much better: But you need to talk with your docter and wean off it.I was on it for 2 Years, it did help, but the last 6 Months it made me feel worst. I was complaining to my Cardiologist how extremly fatigued I was' he questioned the meds. My fatigue is so much better, and have my fingers crossed that my flares will go away too.
That is a lot of medication you are taking, but like most of the advice you are getting here it is not as simple as stopping cold turkey. I will say I was taking Lyrica and then my doctor suggested taking Cymbalta instead of the anti-depressant I was taking as Cymbalta is also an anti-depressant. The two medications did not go well together and I started to have secondary effects such as headaches and severe swelling of my feet and legs so much so that I couldn't get shoes on. Not all medications work well for everyone and I went off Cymbalta fairly quickly...but just the same I waited to talk to my doctor. Muscle relaxers I take on a need basis and I take mostly at night. I know at times we all feel like a walking pharmacy and like you I have a hard time with all the vitamins etc. every morning! Try to get an appointment with your doc as soon as possible in order to stop the Cymbalta.
I went off the cymbalta already...... I was only on it two weeks and had more and worse bad flares than I have in a few months. Iv been off for less than two days and already feel better.
I was hoping to incorporate more natural things as I start going off the other meds. I was hoping to do one at a time slowly and see how that goes.
Things I wanted to incorporate are:
Homemade Chai Tea with lots of herbs and spices that reduce inflamation
Continuing to change my diet to a gluten free/low gluten diet, almost paleo style(seems to be helping so far)
More foods that fight inflimation
Continuing to swim several times a week
Incorpoating more suppliments such as: fish oil, b 12 stress complex, Mint Oil, Maybe Vit d......
Also continue to meditate and expand my inner buddhist
Thats my start so far...
I heard of this great book "Fatigued to Fantastic" that has come up several times in my research.... I want to get it and see what it has to recommened.
