A positive new page to this story

Hi,

I have had an amazing breakthrough with a medication. I started taking Escitalopram (anti-depressant) and I feel a whole new me coming out. I am less tired, I have weened off of the medication I was taking for CFS and I haven't taken a nap in 4 days! : ) I still experience the chronic pain associated with this diagnosis, but I am feeling a lot better. I am so excited and I am going to cherish this feeling as long as it lasts. I'm not 100%, but I feel 50-60% is pretty good. I feel more positive, my stress level is lower and I feel more able to "handle" daily things that arise without being completely exhausted.

On a side note, has anyone ever felt if they lay down in bed like their muscles have been bruised just from slightly touching the mattress? That was a new one for me this week. Also, the other day, I put clothes on and it was like yuck! My body was screaming for me to take off my jeans and put on a pair of pajama pants (new feeling as well).

I hope everyone had a happy holiday season and thanks for all the support! : )

Sara

Hello Sara,

So pleased to here about your success, and weaning yourself off some of your meds, too. I think success breeds success, if you know what I mean. Long may it continue!

I also have that same problem with clothes - sometimes my body screams at me, can't stand tight, heavy or non-flexible clothes! I have to take my bra off as soon as I get in, and I live in my pyjamas when I don't have to go out. They are so soft, light and comfy!

Keep up the positive attitude, and let us know how it goes.

Take care, Anne

I am really happy for you Sara, that is great news about feeling better! I also have issues sometimes with extra sensitive skin. Even the slightest touch can be painful at times. Hugs.

Good news, Sara. Glad to hear you’re feeling better.

There is a medical term for the skin sensitivity, it’s called allodynia. I have it, too. Some research attributes it to small fiber neuropathy and lack of restorative sleep, but I am not sure there is conclusive evidence supporting either as cause in Fibro. Mine is worse in Winter, so I try to moisturize alot or my skin can get really irritated quick.

Hugs,

L.

Oh I also found warm baths help alot because they get blood circulating to skin. I want to try hydrotherapy as well. I have heard positive things in regards to this kind of therapy alleviating Fibro symptoms like allodynia and soreness.

L.

Thanks Everyone! : )

I feel like this is a new leaf that's being turned and I'm hoping it lasts! I'm still experiencing a lot of chronic pain, but that isn't anything new. My therapist and I talked about the CFS and the chronic pain and I asked myself, "If there was one thing I could get rid of with this diagnosis, what would it be?" I told myself the CFS. I can deal with the pain, but being tired all the time effects every part of your life. I'm not saying that pain doesn't as well, but I know how to deal with that. I didn't know how to cope with being tired all the time.

Sara

Hello Sara,

That is a very interesting comment. I thought about that, and I agree. The pain is a pain, but sometimes I can cope with it. Can still continue to do things. The tiredness... when it hits you is very tricky. Sorrry I am not able to offer solutions.

Just pace yourself so you don't end up too tired.

Take care, Anne

My friends look at me weird sometimes because I am mostly in my pajamas or pajama like clothing and 90% of the time I don't wear a bra. I have learned to not care what other people think of me. It is how I deal with the pain and my comfort comes first. I also started to bruise really easy this past year it is new for me. I don't remember banging my legs or any other body part and I have this big huge bruise. I am new to the site but I thought I would share I know how you feel.

Sara,

I'm so glad you are feeling better! And yes, 50 - 60 % is a great feeling after being at 10 - 20% to be sure. I haven't had the skin issues, but there are nights where my mattress feels like my worst enemy, and we made sure we bought a really fluffy one! I will say a little prayer for you in hopes that you just keep feeling better and better!

Yessss. I also feel as though my right side from my waist to my right thigh is bruised, or as if my skin is terribly sunburned. It really hurts! This is also new for me. If you find out what it is, please share! I haven't found any relief for 3 days now.
