Amen. Epilepsy meds are not to be messed with. I take some for seizures. Don’t do it.
Great post. Thanks for sharing. I can see that 200+ people have already read this post. :)
Scott, this is the most active online support group that I have ever been a part of. It's wonderful. I am so glad a friend mentioned it to me.
And thanks to SK for starting up the fibro and arthritis group.......and how it is growing rapidly this first day.
I do understand I am playing with fire when I drink due to my epilepsy however I haven't had a seizure in over a year (even got my beginners back :) ). I take my meds 2 hours before, not during drinking therefore they are working already before the alcohol comes as I have my meds in my purse so with me at all times.
Oh Shawna, I know you want to be young, you deserve to be, just please be careful! We old hens are worriers, and guess what, when you start having kids and grandkids, it is just all part of it!
One of my granddaughter's Friend's Dads has been a State Trooper all of his working life, she always complains about his rules, especially about the car. I had a talk with her one day they were here and asked her to just think of what he has seen! ER Drs and Nurses are included in this too!
Yes indeed, aries! No disrespect or disregard intended! Thank you for your service to your community, so many lives are saved every moment of the day by highly skilled, always dedicated EMTs!
In that particular instance, I was trying to get a teenage girl to look at things from her Father's eyes. I was trying to give her some perspective into his reasoning behind his rules, and I know how this is received too!
Fair warning to let you know that I haven't slept yet, and had the grandsons all weekend! I'm in hyper-exhaustion, It's rainy and cold and my back and sciatic legs are killing me! NO relief yet, hoping that last dose will change things!
I was diagnosed at about that age and yes I wanted to stay and drink and I did and I paid for it the next morning as you have and will. . .there isn't a way to make this easy. As for friends, they have to learn to deal with what you are going through. You have time to figure out that your health cannot survive a drunken night too often and your friends need to know that too so tell them if you feel you should. Just say, "with the condition I have drinking and it doesn't mix." or let them know that this condition makes you very tired and you have to rest.
I just turned 30 and my friends know that I have my limitations and that's that. I don't give explanations, I simply say, "not tonight" and that's all I feel I am obligated to say. I no longer drink nor smoke nor stay out partying late and I used to do all those things heavily. I dance in my flats, I go to concerts, I laugh, I stay out late all sober but I am home and in the bed by midnight. Some nights I am up and out late. . a few wks ago we stayed up til 5am while my drunk friends made shadow puppets on the wall, it was all so very funny and my body was so stiff the next morning but it was fun and you still have to have fun so I understand what you mean when you wanna go out and have fun with your friends.
If you take meds, liquor and meds do not mix. . I only take anti-depressants and OTC ibuprofen but I still am cautious with them and I don't drink. . but I won't say that it's bad to wanna go out for a drink and have fun just be careful. I used to plan my party nights like since I am going to be out, I'd not take my meds that day or take em earlier and drink light and make sure I have nothing going on the next day that i can actually recover from a hangover BUT this became a problem overtime and you will see what you will have to do in order to live a life with fibro and still have fun. It's possible. . .
Shawna, I don’t know who you talked to about taking clonazapam and drinking alcohol but you need to do some more research. They can cause a FATAL reaction when taken together. Please talk to your doc, pharmacist, etc. and be very, very careful with that. I am not a doc, of course, but have many years experience working with people on these types of meds.
angelonearth, I agree with you wholeheartedly.Yes, people can enjoy life without alcohol! And yes why would anyone choose to mix alcohol and medications as it is a dangerous mix.
