Alcohol consumption?

Hi everyone, I am not a drinker... use to be but have not been for a long time! Anyway I have been craving a beer lately and plan on going to our local Italian Fest downtown this weekend and wanted to have a beer with my sister. I have heard drinking alcohol can increase fibro pain? My husband is very worried about this. Can anyone tell me anything about it?

Hi Traci,

Well from my point of view it certainly increases my pains, mainly in my arms and legs, just one glass of wine will make me ache all over, I used to enjoy the odd glass with a meal but have given it up completely now, it's not worth the pain.

I have tried low alcohol versions, wines at just 4% etc but the same happens! Plus it makes me very dizzy but that might be due to some of the tablets I take not mixing with the alcohol. So I just don't bother now! Don't know why but my arms really hurt if I have just one glass.

Something else that fibro stops you doing!!

Perhaps try a small glass of beer/wine at home a few days before the Italian Fest, you might be fine, but if like me you get some pains, mine don't last long, just while the alcohol is in my system, is doesn't induce a bad flare with me.

Hope that helps, Love Lucy xx

yes I do, I am on Lyrica. thanks

It does, thank you!

Hi Traci,

I recently started Lyrica and the one thing the Pharmacist made sure to emphasize was not to take it with alcohol. When I asked if that meant none at all, she said yes, absolutely no alcohol. I was also reading about mixing alcohol and Lyrica on another site where people wrote in about their experiences and while their reactions varied, it seemed like most felt that it was not worth it because they ended up feeling sick for several days afterwards. I hope this information helps you with your decision.

It not a good idea to mix meds with alcohol, but one beer the worst that will happen is you will vomit, but do not DRIVE, your young you have to have some fun, Bitters, lime & lemonade is slightly achocholic but you can drink without getting sick. that's what I drink socialy if I have a drink. But it can be dangerous to drink and take strong nedications that's why people die it is usually a mix of drugs and alachol so be big girl responsbe have a great time but be aware of the dangers associated with doing itl

My dr says its ok for me to have 1-2 beers on occasion and I’m on Meds as well. I’ve done this several times and never had any problem at all!
