It is getting really annoying but my hair has been falling out for about a year and a half now. My hair was thin to begin with and it is just getting thinner... it falls out from the root not breaking... anyone else have this problem? They say that it can be caused from the neurontin (gabapentin) that i take but other meds could probably cause it too.
Yes! My hair started to fall out about 6 years ago. I was frantic because I have always had beautiful thick hair. Well, my counselor at the time (she was a nurse) told me about a shampoo and conditioner called 'NIOXIN, and it works beautiful! The shampoo and conditioner come separately and it is kind of expensive - but the difference in my hair is just fantastic! I am almost back to where my hair used to be. I was starting to get bald spots (tiny ones) and the hair I was looking at in my shower was so disheartening. I have been using Nioxin now for 6 years. I recommended it to two of my friends, and they were so happy with it! If you follow the directions, you will most likely see results in a few weeks. One of the first things you will see is that the hair that collects near the shower drain gets less and less. This is just advice I am giving you. I can't promise it will work for you - but it wouldn't hurt to give it a try. Good luck!! Laurie
When I found out I had hypothyroid and began the meds for it my hair started thining out. Ive always had thick long hair and I cried. It was falling out by the handful.I don't remember who told me this but I bought Biotin in the vitamin section. Guess what it helped. Read up on it and maybe you will want to try it. Hugs, Robin
Hi Fibromommy, yes hair loss has become my norm, it started about 8 years ago, I seriously do not know how I am not bald, my hair is everywhere, the sinks, floors, counters, bed, frig, & if I cook anything you can be sure to get some dee protein !! I have tried everything, even the male hair loss remedies, till I saw that it causes you to loose more hair first … Yikes, so after hundreds of blood tests & endocrinologist visit, I have decided to accept it. My hair used to be so thick, & when my regular hair stylist was out, the girl that did my hair said she has never seen so much hair loss. Chalk it up to great genetics…kinda unfair all the men in my family are bald, but my grandmother had a great thick head of hair even in her 80’s, go figure…
I’m hopeful as menopause draws closer maybe It will stop falling out. One can hope !
Hugs & blessing

Thank you all for ur replies good to know I’m not alone
I am not onmeds, but, I am losing my hair as well. I guess I will have fun picking out wigs before long.
Yes I've always had very fine hair and now it's getting thinner as well. My scalp has become visible and I am really self conscious of it. I tried Nioxin a few years back but it didn't really make any difference to me. I hate washing it and seeing so much in the bottom of the shower. I'm taking Gabapentin too but mine started thinning before that. Probably genetic for me, my mother and great aunt were the same. My sister though has a beautifully full head of thick hair. So not fair!
Hi Berrygus - I am so sorry that the Nioxin didn't work for you. Indeed, it's a very frightening thing for a woman to start losing her hair. I used to hate washing my hair too, because so much (in my eyes) hair seemed to be falling out. I was losing hair at the roots - so it wasn't breakage of my hair. I know that woman have the tendency to have hereditary baldspots and that's when my problems started happening. Although I love the way my hair is now, even after all the years of using Nioxin, not ALL of it has come back. I have a little bit of a receding hair line up front, but my bangs cover it up. I am pretty sure that this is hereditary. We women go through enough, you know? All we need is to start losing our hair and it can scare the 'crap' out of us! I sure wish there was something on the market that would work for you. You are right, It's not fair that your sister has thick hair and you are suffering hair loss. Sometimes I wonder if Fibro may play a part in this, because over the years that I have met women with Fibromyalgia, they are losing some of their hair. I know that Meds will sometime do this as well. We certainly don't have it easy, do we?? I am a huge believer of this website and feel that whatever we go through - support will help us through it all. My heart goes out to everyone that are going through what I am going through with the Fibro. It takes a particular kind of strength to handle what we go through, and every one of us has that strength to do so. The fact that so many people are reaching out to this website for help, understanding, support and even for venting, shows that we all have hope. Berrygus, hang in there, please! We need to take just one day at a time. For me, personally, one day at a time is the absolute best I can do right now. Gentle hugs! Laurie
Thanks Laurie, I agree, we women certainly have enough to deal with! And this site is amazing! My daughter is addicted to Facebook, I think I'm just as bad on here! ;) I'm with Jacqui, maybe a wig's not a bad idea!
Hugs back
Robyn
Wearing a wig may not be a bad idea for you. The high quality ones, you can't even tell a woman is wearing one. Also if you should part the hair, the part looks so natural. It wouldn't hurt to do some shopping and look around to see what's available and compare prices. If this is what you are comfortable with, go for it! Laurie
HELLO MY NAME IS MICHELE AND I AM NEW HERE. I USE TO WORK FOR PAUL MITCHELL. IF YOU DO NOT KNOW OF HIM ALL I CAN SAY HE KNEW ALMOST EVERYTHING ABOUT HAIR AND SKIN. OK THEIR MANY THINGS YOU CAN DO!!!!! DO NOT WASH YOUR HAIR IN THE SHOWER, BECAUSE IF IT IS WEAK YOU WILL LOSE IT FASTER DUE TO THE PRESSURE OF THE BEATING WATER ON THE SCALP.
I ALSO WANT TO TELL YOU THE SHAMPOO YOU ARE USING IS PROBABLY NOT A GOOD ONE IF IT HAS BEEN ABOUT A YEAR. I WOULD SUGGEST USING A SHAMPOO CALLED NIXON. IT IS FOR FINE LIMP HAIR. REGARDLESS IF YOU COLOR OR NOT IT HAS MANY STAGES OF SHAMPOO MY SPELLING IS REALLY BAD. JUST TO SAY I DO NOT KNOW WHAT YOU ARE EATING BUT, THEIR IS A VITAMIN THAT IS EXCELLENT FOR HAIR, NAILS AND SKIN. IT IS BIOTIN!! IT IS GREAT SO IF YOU PLACE THE VITAMINS INSIDE AND CHANGE YOUR SHAMPOO IT WILL TAKE ITS TIME TO GET INTO YOUR SYSTEM. SO, YOU MUST BE PATIENT. BELIEVE ME WHEN I SAY YOU HAVE BEEN LOSING IT FOR A YEAR. THAT DOES NOT MEAN YOU HAVE A CURE FOR THE HAIR BEING LOSS. BUT, IF YOU GO BY MY INSTRUCTIONS. I PROMISE YOU, IT WILL NOT COME OUT SO QUICKLY BECAUSE YOU ARE REPLACING SOME ACTIVE VITAMINS IN YOUR BODY AND THE BEST OF SHAMPOO ON YOUR HEAD. IT WILL TAKE TIME AND THIS IS NOT A QUICK FIX. JUST START AS SOON AS YOU POSSIBLY CAN AND YOU WILL SEE THE DIFFERENCE. THE PROBLEM IS I DO NOT KNOW WHAT STAGE IS YOUR HAIR BECAUSE NIXON HAVE DIFFERENT STAGES. SO, I SUGGEST YOU USE THE MILDEST ONE FOR NOW AND GET INTO CHEMICALLY TREATED NIXON AND IT WILL BE GENTAL ENOUGH TO SLOW DOWN THE PROCESS OF LOSING IT. OK

Hi Michele - as I mentioned in responding to Berrygus, I have been using Nioxin for years and it has really worked for me. My hair is back to looking really good now and I won't use any other kind of shampoo or conditioner. Years ago, my counselor recommended it, as she uses it also. The third time I used it, there was no hair that I could see near the drain! Also less hair on my hairbrush too. I do shed hair in the summer through, but it doesn't worry me. Despite using Nioxin, I am very careful in brushing my hair and don''t wear any hairstyles that requires me to tightly pull back the hair in any way. So far, so good! Laurie
