I was on FB & saw an advertisement ad for the new Sleep Number Bed where you can change the temperature from hot to cold depending on what you need. I've read articles, many, that state for a person suffering with Fibro should keep their bedroom at a cool 68 degrees when trying to sleep as it will help with Fibro Flashes. I've always had a box fan at the foot of my bed, a fan on my night stand in my face, a ceiling fan, the a/c at 70, & that's even in the winter plus the window open (only in the winter). I've noticed the colder my room is, in fact the better I sleep. So would a bed that you can turn down to "frozen", lol, help? Does anyone have this bed, or know anyone with this bed, or one of those new cool gel beds? Does it help? I was thinking of getting a new bed come next tax return. Just trying to weigh out my options of which would be better. What kind of bed do you sleep on?
I have an old back injury as well as fibro. I would wake up every day and have to pull myself out of bed because my back hurt so badly. It didn't help with all the fibro aches and pains. I finally got a really nice mattress. It's a sealy with a big pillow top. It was pretty expensive, but completely worth it. I wake up with back pain MUCH less often. I also sleep better, which helps.
I also have a pillow top mattress and love it. I sleep with the window cracked during the winter and my fan is always on. I think the bed you are talking about has a 30 days return policy start asking questions now and find out.
Hi Allie, if I had the money I would buy a sterns & foster latex mattress , I tested lots of beds & I didn’t like the soft squishy pillow tops, sinking in just made or to painful to try & turn, so I spent less and bought a 31/2 inch mattress topper, at first I liked it, but it’s to soft for me, turning at night is a harder & I don’t feel a difference in my pain, I think everyone is different on this topic. We have had some great discussions in the past on this just go to all discussions on the top left and type in mattresses, or related topic.
I think I'd try a mattress topper first to see if it helps you to sleep any better. Plus, K=Mart has some memory foam pillows on sale for $15 and although they are small, they help me to be more comfortable while sleeping.
Do you snore a lot or waking up gasping for breath? The reason I ask is I wonder if you suffer from sleep apnea. Your need for the cold temperatures got me to thinking on that line. If you do snore and/or gasp for breath, you should have a sleep study done, if you haven't already. A CPAP machine can be a great tool for getting a good night's sleep to the person with sleep apnea. Many fibro folk suffer from sleep disorders.
I sleep on a comfort-aire bed. It's similar to the sleep number. Before I got this bed I had constant back pain at night and woke up stiff. Of course, that's the nights that I actually slept. My friend who also has fibro told me about this bed. So I slept on her's a couple of nights and it really did help me. These beds can be expensive but mine was well worth the money.
